Anthea approaches the pedestal (keeping close to the west wall) to see what is causing the green gleam.

The three hobbits have their missile weapons in-hand to cover Anthea's approach to the pedestal.

Aldbane will approach the pedestal as well.

Strangely enough, the people in the room make no sound. There is no noise anywhere, they can't even hear themselves talk or breathe. As you get close to teh pedestal, it looks like a bright green gem is on it

Tempting, but why hasn't it been snatched long before?

Anthea Maloof peers down the western passage, hoping to see 20 feet of corridor ending in a door (which would then match the map).

Yes, I slightly re-arranged the geography so we could have maps match up

Franklin performs a science experiment: He tests whether the silence effect is a quality of the room, triggered by crossing the threshold, or does the effect seem to a quality of the gem, triggered by proximity to the pedestal?

If it seems like the gem, (since nobody can hear him talk) he thinks to himself, "Too bad we don't have a bag of holding."

It seems to be a quality of the room, not proximity to the gem

Franklin follows Antheamaloof down the western hallway. His scientific theory for moving on and leaving the gem: It's probably making a bad sound, and the room is designed to suppress its effects. If we take the gem out of the room, it will blow out our eardrums or try to mind control us.
