"And what of Sir Pelenwin and Wibert?" asks Josiane quietly.
She knows there is wisdom in Ulric's words, and in any other circumstances she'd agree with him, but two comrades are lost to this terrible darkness.
It goes hard with her to abandon them.

"All signs point toward their violent death," Ulric says to Josiane. "If their bodies were taken this way than it bodes even worse. While I hate to abandon their corpses to this place for the moment, it is better than leaving all of ours here. Remember, we still need to fight our way out of this crypt past whatever you saw at the entrance. Our warriors are all badly wounded and my magic is nearly spent."

"I for one will not leave friends behind", says Gustave quietly.
"I cannot fault the strategic advantage of your plan, Ulric, but I would not want to be abandoned in such a place as this, and would think our fellows the same."
"Be not so ready to deem them lost; you may doom them when there is yet hope."

"Gustave," pleads Desmond, "we are ill prepared, gravely wounded in body, soul, and spirit, and low on strength. We do Pel's and Wibert's deaths, for I do believe them dead, no justice by blindly rushing to aid that which cannot be aided and thereby speeding our way to their sides."
Desmond looks ashamed to speak what has been on his mind for the last hour, but... he also looks resolute in his thoughts.

danhem wrote:"Olaf could jump over with his ring," Ulric suggests looking to the wounded warrior. "Perhaps there is a mechanism over there that will lower or raise a bridge?"
"Not I." says Olaf looking around, "Dieter is the one with the magic ring, but I don't think..."
"I, however, would vote that we return from where we came so that we can properly recover before more of us die. This path," Ulric says pointing across the void, "will most certainly lead to unnecessary death."
Olaf pauses while Ulric finishes then says, "I do
not want to abandon our friends to this evil place, but I also don't think they would have come down here. They were foolish to go off alone, as
we were to divide the party, but they would not be so foolish as to have gone further on there own...and certainly not deeper into these catacombs."
Olaf waves the lighted scepter back toward the stairs and adds, "If we are to continue to search for Pel and Wibert I think we need to go back up and try the other path." he says, "If it also leads down, then I think we may have to consider our friends lost."

Dorgan loudly clears his throat to get everyone's attention.
"These two wasn't stupid. I don't see 'em goin' deeper in the tomb by they-selves. Wherever they went, it wasn't by choice."
The dwarf takes a deep breath and continues.
"They're long gone at this point. And the undead don't take no prisoners. It's time someone said what we're all thinkin'. They're dead."
A look of grim determination forms on Dorgan's face.
"We should take all those half-gold coins, buy a lot more holy water, get some oil and torches, and come back tomorrow at dawn to clean this whole d**ned tomb out!"
In a quieter voice, he continues, "Now you wanna try the other path first, that's yer bizness. But me, I been in a couple scrapes with the Miss here, and she knows what's what. If her coin says this be the way, then this be the way."

Looking down at his feet, Desmond adds quietly, "There was a lot of real gold there, too, Dorgan, not just the electrum. We should take that, as well, and just leave some heavy rocks on the trigger for the door."
He looks up and scowls. "Then we can come back, better prepared, and take our vengeance on these undead daemons for Pel and Wibert."
