While this is going on, Desmond/Mondes (the former helpfully, the latter resentfully) re-examine the blood splatters upon the flagstones to see if anything more might be learned...

Their pair of eyes are as good as anyone's, but the hard stone floor is surprisingly clear of dust... someone (or something) must move up and down these halls reasonably regularly to keep it thus. There is no tell tale marks left in the dust or anything else so useful.

The curious thing is... that to Desmond's eye the two blood splatters do not appear overly large. Hardly the sign of fatal woundings, he wouldn't think.

It is a mystery.

Dorgan will carefully place the coin down on the ground where he found them. He doesn't want the sound of coins clanking to echo down the corridors.

"That ain't gold. Let's not bother with it now."

He looked around, considering their situation.

"If the ones that're missin' ain't here, let's keep moving 'till we find 'em."

Highbough says: "For once I agree with the Dwarf; these sarcophagi are long-sealed, and best left that way." If there's still more wound-binding to be done, he'll give the place a once-over for secret doors using his racial ability. Otherwise when the healing is done, he is ready to move on.

Josiane's brow furrows again as news filters back from the far end of the vault.

"Why false gold at the fore and unburied bones at the rear?" she wonders; "The latter may bear closer examination."

"But touch nothing!" she adds as an urgent afterthought, not wanting to give certain people ideas... ( ;D!)

She gets on with tending to Olaf.

"All fixed then eh Olaf, good stuff" says Gustave, plonking himself down next to young fighter.

"Now, my dear", he continues, turning his attention to Josiane, "If you still have any of that divine favour left in you, I would very much appreciate its application here" he finishes, pointing at his nose, which in addition to being off-centre, is also now visibly enlarged and host to a deep purple bruise which is beginning to extend beneath his eyes.

He accompanies his request with a signature grin that, despite the morbidity reigning above it, is only slightly less cheesy than usual.

She sets about patching up the Gustave as best she can.

"False gold?" Ulric asks after exploring the chamber. "Let me have a look."

Ulric picks up a few of the spilled coins and examines them closely to see if he can determine their composition; also if he notices any important markings or seals.

The company have already been in this cold, eerie place some twenty minutes while Josiane does what she can for the injured fighters. And though the torches are beginning to gutter and burn low, they chance a further ten minute repose while the maid of the temple attends Gustave's bloodied face.

The blackness of the dunjon creaks and moans (1d6) while she gets about the work of clean Gustave's face... he has a nasty slip lip, and what may be a broken nose, but once the blood is cleaned away he doesn't look too bad. Ruggedly handsome, even...

When all is done (1d6=2) Gustave is refreshed of 2 hit points, and the torches are at their last. Fortunately, the two lanterns will burn longer yet.

The company is getting anxious, meanwhile...

Meanwhile Ulric examines a few of the false gold coins more closely.

The appear to be legitimate coinage from an earlier age. They might have been minted, perhaps, a century ago? They bear the impression of a pious looking noble on one face, and an owl on the other. There are tiny scribblings about the rim, but these are so worn and grubby with verdigris that Ulric cannot make them out in this light.

(1d6=6!) Ulric's knowledge of metallurgy is not insignificant, and he reckons these might be electrum; an alloy of silver and gold.
