Rufus seems keen to press on, and his further investigation of the passage entry confirms it is as safe as any like it.

All appears to be quiet in the passage when Rufus pops his head out of the stair well. Mads, then Dugel, then Wendel are behind him on the stair.

After returning up the passageway 1, Rufus will careful listen and look with Mad's light and sneak down passageway 2 with weapons drawn looking out for traps. In search of the vault door.
