danhem wrote:"Wibert, do you know how to operate the portcullis in the front gate?"
Wibert looks puzzled, and then says "I've never saw it moved once the whole week I was here,".

danhem wrote:"What do you know of the man Wibert? What were his abilities? Was he able to move incredibly fast and climb walls? Gustave, can you remember what you told this Copernicus? Anything about us?"
Wibert searches his memory for a steadying moment, then replies "Well, I shouldn't think he were able to get about too quick -- he was getting on in years, from the little I saw of 'im.".

He scratches his head as he think on... "I never spoke to him direct," he says, "Never had a call to, for which I was thankful, mind. He had a fierce reputation, see? Most of Saxxon's lads kept well out of his way if they 'ad a choice. In league with the devils, they said. Ha! A bunch of old cobbler's if you ask me."

"I'll go try to find that bucket Gustave 'found' earlier."
Even in his weakened condition, Desmond makes a supreme effort and hauls himself up out of his slouched position and into the rainy courtyard. There, right beside the door is the broken old tin bucket and a scattering of rusty chain, bolts, and 4in iron nails. A few of them might still be strong enough to be useful...

Desmond takes a few careful moments to sift through the contents of the pail and pull out any nails that might be useful. Once done, he'll bring them in to Ulric.

A little light-headed from the exertion of even walking for such a time, Desmond says, "Here are what useful nails I could find from Gustave's bucket... maybe they'll be of some use? Apparently I'm still not at full strength..." then collapses into a chair.

Desmond is still not feeling himself (half strength, dexterity and constitution).

"Good idea, Koch," agrees Highbough. "I am most concerned with this mysterious warrior with his prodigious feats of climbing and leaping. It seems to me that if we can somehow limit his mobility, we can negate his advantage. I've snared a few rabbits in my day; if we could somehow get him to step into a lasso of rope, with the other end tied to a stationary object..."

"That may work Highbough, though one as dextrous as that killer may easily evade such a trap. We may as well try."

KOCH pulls his makeshift rope made from his bedroll and Nidhogg's cloak from his backpack and sadly says, "I hope Nidhogg is ok..." He fashions the rope into a lasso. "Where do you think the best place to set this would be?"

Highbough has trammelled one door.

Desmond has recovered some rusty old nails that might serve, and Koch hacks some pieces of timber out of one of the long tables in the mess hall with a hand axe (waking the slumbering Gustave with the racket).

Then Koch and Highbough have ready the gear they require for some makeshift carpentry on the rainy tower-top... and discuss the virtues of constructing a lasso trap as they haul the gear to the base of the stair adjacent to the mess hall.
