Mads the Fair
Mads would like to inquire of Albert where he could find a barber or sorts (or at least procure a blade sharp enough to do so and some water to do it with himself) and maybe if he could bother him for a stretch of cloth and twine to cover up the head of his axe (family heirloom). Mads professes that it's been a long journey and civilization calls for a more proper demeanor.

"Well, well, Master Hubert, got yerself some fresh 'ands have ye?" asks the first of the guards sourly -- a hunched, olive skinned fellow with a cruel look about him "'an ones that carry bows 'an all," he continues, eying Olaf suspiciously.
Olaf gives his best stupid, but friendly, grin but says nothing to the guard's comment..
Olaf wouldn't be surprised in the least if the guard had some Goblin blood in him.
"Those'll come in right 'andy at the grocery market," comments a second guard -- a more upright but equally queasy chap -- as he approaches the cart and moves a few sacks of potatoes around indifferently.
"Ye can't be too careful nowadays," replies the farmer shortly, nodding his head meaningfully toward the wanted notices on the gates.
"Right you is," replies the first guard acidly, giving Dieter a long hard stare. "I don't suppose you fellers would know this Simon would you?"
Olaf and Dieter stutter something in the negative.
Nope, Olaf knows nothing about anybody called Simon.
"I didn't think so," snorts the guard dismissively, "Stupid bumpkins like ye," he growls and watches Dieter carefully for any reaction. When Dieter manages to keep his trap shut, the ugly guard soon loses interest and waves the cart through.
"Next," calls another of the guards as they shift their attention to the next group in line.
Just as Olaf and Dieter are about to breath a sigh of relief, the first of the guards calls back over his shoulder;
"Oi, Hubert! You watch yourself!" he warns, "I've got an eye on you...".
The farmer simply shrugs and urges his cows to lurch forward once more.
"Never did like that fella," he comments to Dieter and Olaf as the cart is dragged beneath the great gate arch, and into Ket at last.
"I can understand why." Olaf says under his breath.

The remainder of you pass through the gates in small groups at discrete intervals, receiving a cursory inspection accompanied by thinly veiled antagonism from the unsavoury guards.
Taines, Anwyn and Padrig in particular suffer an unfair degree of questioning, but by mid morning the whole of the party is within Ket's walls and gathered in the town square, where the gallows that stood here before have been replaced by an open market with several dozen local farmers hawking their produce. On either side of the market stand the familiar two taverns The Jolly Noose and The Executioner's Axe, though neither is as busy as it was upon your last visit.
The square itself is busy with rural folk and commerce in spite of the grey weather. And you have all made good on collecting your gear and sacks from farmer Hubert, though you are beginning to feel slightly conspicuous among the crowd of farm folk and merchants trading for livestock and vegetables...
"Perhaps we should move to a less conspicuous location." says Olaf, "The tavern, perhaps?"

"Simon the Humble?" Dieter snorts, once safely past the guard. "Who would ever name themselves something like that? Even if I did know the guy, I wouldn't have admitted it...not with a name like that."

Albert happily produces a hessian bag (which used to contain vegetables) and a piece of twine which he gives to
Mads for naught.
As for the barber,
"You'llfind a couple of barbers and doctors along Flea street, the first left off tha Main way out front, here. Conrad is tha feller oi use fer washin and shavin, but there's others too."

Caine reveals the large, crimson gem-stone which he pried from the demonesque statue's eye on the second level of the dunjon (forfeits the +50% XP bonus he would have got for the gem by keeping it secret) -- it is a precious find indeed.
But trading gems for coin may not be the best course, for the party is already burdened with as much coin as it can carry, and a gem certainly weighs far less than another bag full of coin.

Olaf's suggestion to move to the cover of a tavern is well received by most of his fellows who have not yet broken their fast.
A hot meal, a good drink, and even a wash would certainly not go astray. Not to mention that in a private room or booth you can discuss the division of the loot!

Ket is a large borderland town, but it does not take
Flewellen very long to find his way to the central town square and the open market there. There are dozens of farmers and merchants buying and selling produce, food, and livestock.
Right away
Flewellen spots his fellow adventurers in the middle of market -- they do appear somewhat out of place. A group of Men and Elves and a Dwarf all burdened with adventuring gear, full packs and sacks amid a throng of farm folk and merchants going about their business.
