The central chamber of Dungeon Level 3 is revealed.

You discover two new exits (natural corridors leading northwest and northeast). Additionally you can see there are several excavated side tunnels branching off the minecart path down in the quarry.

The bottom of the quarry is flooded. The water is choked with algae and seaweed. From up here it smells foul and brackish. Somewhat incongruously, you see a shipwreck down in the water. It's a badly rotted wooden sailboat, about 25 feet long. Carc draws his master's attention to a parrot perched atop the mast.

Noh peers hard at it, is it a for-real parrot (as far as he can tell.)
Good eyes Carc, he praises, scritching the raven's chin and points out the parrot to the rest of the party.

"Oh, I always wanted a parrot for a pet!" says Robur, but feels an unfortunate lack of the magical spirit in him to cast a spell at the moment. "Maybe we can explore the northern tunnel and come back here straight after to check what's down there. Maybe the ship has ancient pirate's coins!"

"Well if that ain't a thing too see. A ship, down here, what in the world is going on." Kiplyn looks on in amazement.

Dame Simonetta is curious about the ship. The (living?) parrot just makes it even more mysterious.

However, to get to the head of the ramp will lead us close to the spider's den again. Maybe we can find another exit which leads down to one of those other tunnels.

She votes to follow Robur's suggestion and investigate the northern tunnel first.

1d6=6, the dice indicate a wandering monster encounter has occurred!

Let's wait until after the new year holiday to run the encounter.

In the meantime, I am soliciting feedback for the future of the campaign. I'd love to hear your thoughts where we can take this game: viewtopic.php?p=36653#p36653

OOC: We'll start back up again on Monday. In the meantime, I'd like to invite you all (if you are interested) to read about my new campaign, here: https://odd74.proboards.com/thread/1570 ... roved-2023

I promised a 2023 campaign with all the standard OD&D races and classes, and this is it. The setting is Ultraviolet Grasslands by Luka Rejec. It's got a '1970s psychedelic comics' feel, like Moebius (Jean Giraud), Jack Kirby, or Ralph Bakshi. I am running the UVG as a 'Wilderlands' style campaign, with the players wandering a vast and empty wilderness, interacting with various far-flung civilizations and factions.

Check it out, and if you think it looks cool, I'd love to have you in both campaigns! (Hobbet Heroes will continue as its own separate campaign.)

Attack!

3 giant spiders attempt to ambush our heroes. They drop down out of the shadows on the cavern ceiling. Do they succeed? (1d6=3) No! The party is not surprised.

You see the 3 spiders swooping down at you. One of them is badly wounded; clearly one of the same spiders you fought before in area #2. What will you do??
