Camp is made, but a meagre meal of trail rations deliberately chewed over does little more than Tass's stories to while away the evening. Flin manages to catch a grey-brown toad but, even spit roasted, it only fuels his yearning for a good hunk of fire-charred meat.
Eventually, proper night comes with Garamon and Wraislin taking the first watch. They get a little light rain, but nothing more. Then Stern and Goldwen, Thanis and Witherun, and Flin and Tass take their appointed duties though the cool night.
When dawn comes it is grey with a proper drizzle setting in. It's not enough to put out the fire, but enough that everything is beginning to get wet...
At least in the forest there would be some cover.
I usually dice three times for an overnight encounter out in the wilderness, for each of the early, mid, and late watches. 3d6=5,3,4 so... better luck next time

Day Two!
What now?

Thanis eyes all the wood that the party collected the previous day and wonders if any will be needed and should be taken.
Ready to go? I am content to scout ahead as yesterday.

Goldwen awakens to the drizzly morning and quietly packs up her bedroll while chewing more trail rations. When she's done, she helps Thanis clean up camp as best they can to hide the passing of their presence.
Once that is done, she wipes her dusty hands on her leather breaches and suggests, "Should we head into the forest?"
Better luck next time? This seems like GOOD luck to me!
Do we need a marching order? 2x? Or single file?

Two by two seems a good way to go with 8.
That protects the lower HP types the best I'm guessing

Witherun packs up, nibbling on some pemmican. He glares at the rainy sky, but otherwise makes no comment.
Marching order same as watch order ok?
^ Garamon, Wraislin
| Stern, Goldwen
^ Thanis, Witherun
| Flin, Tass

This marching order is fine unless you want Thanis to scout ahead.

Noooo... I don't think we don't want our Mage in the front row! What about some high AC up front, ranged in the second row, not fighters in the third row, then remaining fighters bring up the rear?
Garamon | Stern
Thanis | Witherun
Wraislin | Goldwen
Flin | Tass

Hobbets, ranger- and woodsman types are all arguably hidey-sneaky in a woodland setting...

Let's stick with ehiker's order for now and see how it goes.

Garamon and Stern lead the double column out of the camp toward the overgrown gate, barely 50 yards away.
Nothing has changed since the day before, excepting everything is now mildly wet. The drizzle continues to patter open the woodland canopy, which is scarcely broken for the narrow path that winds its way into the woodland.
Visibility ahead is modestly impeded by a morning mist, but moreso by the parliament of thick, gnarly old forest members that crowd around the path on all sides...
