While Wen is studying his spells, Highbough will pass the days walking the Abbey's walls, using his fading-but-still-keen Elvish eyesight to survey the countryside.

Another week passes idly by, with Wen cloistered away at his studies, and no sighting of the ogres approaching the keep. Dorgan is distantly concerned about the supplies; probably they can hold out for a month, but not much more.
In the second town turn an active watch is maintained, while Wen solves the riddle of two spells from Ulric's second level spellbook. The ref dices to determine which these are and finds [2d10=8, 3] That Wen unlocks Ulric's Invisibility and Protection from Missiles spells.
Meanwhile, the ref dices to determine whether anything else should occur 1d6=2, so nothing untoward.
Let's say that the abbey's supplies will hold out for [2d6=5] five more turns (weeks) without remedial action...
What for next turn?

Dorgan asks Wen how much longer he'll need, as the clock is ticking on the food supply and he wants to finish with the ogres soon so they can concentrate on more important matters.
Dorgan looks meaningfully at Highbough as he says 'more important matters'.

In turn 1 Wen levelled up and completed researching his own spell, per our PMs

ah my bad.. didn't realize the level up would take the turn, but with the spell that makes sense.. Ok so this is going to be painful

. Perhaps I should have highbough attack me to shift into combat turns and I'll cast read magic ;0

I don't think that would actually make any real difference to the pace of research. For one thing, descent into any combat would interrupt whatever research Wen might be performing
this town turn. Then, at the conclusion of combat time, the "remainder" of the current non-combat turn would be taken up with rest, recovery, and determining what to do in your
next turn. It's a bit of a stretch, perhaps, to zoom right out from combat time to town time, but that's how it goes. A turn is a turn, is always the meter of play.
Perhaps one way to research faster might be to employ a wand or scroll or other device that will
read magic in conjunction with your own ability to read magic. Another method might be to design a superior
read more magic spell

Upon learning of the success of Wen's research, Dorgan says, How 'bout you cast that No-See-Em spell on me and I can check out the ogre cave?

"This is going to take some time, I'm willing to help in anyway I can but I need to stay here and continue my studies because with the way things have been I may never get another chance."
Wen is happy to hold the fort if Dorgan and Highbough want to go for a walk about, no idea what we should do about supplies. Casting Invisibility on Dorgan would be no problem.

Highbough says, "No sign of ogres anywhere. Dimples probably just saw some wild animals, and his imagination took over. I imagine even a common bunny rabbit might seem like a fierce monster to a little dwarf." He resigns himself to another "turn" of Abbey life.
