Ulric ignites his lantern to better illuminate his reading, and then open the scaly Grimoire Lusus Naturae and begins to study the strange passages therein as Pelenwin and Highbough remain on watch...

Time drags on for the watchers, who exchange only a few idle words, until finally Ulric closes his heavy tome, a satisfied sneer upon his face, and declares himself ready.

With one more hour to go before some imagined "dawn", it is Pelenwin's turn to study his mantras while the pair of lean magic-users hold vigil...

At last Pelenwin snaps his tome closed and looks up with a broad, easy smile.

"I am done." he intones.

Several of the others are beginning to rouse in any case, awoken by their growing hunger...
