Bilfur draws a dagger and will help cut his friends out as his staff won;t have much use here

Upon seeing the fire above him Willie abruptly shouts: "GURGLEGURGLE!"

@acodispo I hope you don't think I'm picking on you. I thought Willie's plan was solid. Unfortunately he caught an unlucky break with two consecutive bad rolls (the cube's attack roll and his botched save vs. paralysis.)
Not at all. Sometimes the dice bring treasure. Sometimes you get stuck inside a giant transparent six-sider made of digestive goo. :ugeek:

If Beppo took any splash damage, he tried to beat out the flames. If not, he rolled away before he could take splash damage!

Robur is too terror stricken to contemplate the reckless and foolish deed he did, which is now endangering the whole adventure party. He is probably too far down to know any of the action above, and if he can move (doubtful) is trying to claw his way out of the jelly (likely hopeless and futile).

Keep fighting! They would do no less for us!
And by this I meant: "Wilbur swings again."

This is an important round, so I'd like to hear from Noh and Dougal before rolling the dice. Noh mentioned something about another flask of oil?

Could we tell if hobbets in gelatin were touched/burned by the fire at all?
Was the gelatinous stuff hurt by the fire at all?

Good questions @rredmond.

The DM rules that being inside the live gelatinous cube protects Willie and Robur from the fire. If/when the cube is destroyed, any "leftover" damage will pass through to Robur and Willie, i.e. if the cube has 3hp remaining, and the fire does 6 damage, then Willie and Robur each take 3hp.

The creature is showing significant signs of damage. It has various dents and gouges from the weapon attacks, and its top part is blackened and crispy (like a burnt marshmallow). There are no indications that the gelatinous cube has fire resistance.

Feeling like he doesn't want to push his (or rather his comrades') luck too far, Noh will take a swing at the GC with his cudgel.

Round 2

Dame Simonetta, Kiplyn, Bilfur, and Wilbur all whiff with their attacks!

Noh switches to his cudgel. His mighty blow sends a ripple throughout the gelatinous cylinder, and then SPLOOSH it magically changes from gelatin back to ordinary water. Most of the water splaters onto the floor, and the flaming oil is extinguished. Some of the water spills back into the well, filling it to a depth of 1 foot.

Willie and Robur land at the bottom of the well with a splash and a clinking of coins. They quickly recover from the paralysis and regain their senses.

The gelatinous cube is defeated. What next, Hobbitses? Perhaps a rest turn?
Dame Simonetta d20=7, miss
Kiplyn d20=8, miss
Bilfur d20=7, miss
Beppo takes evasive action
Wilbur d20=8, miss
Noh d20=13, hit for d6=5hp destroying the gelatinous cube!

How much sloshes back into the well? d%= 10, so 90% of the liquid splashes onto the floor, and only 10% lands back in the pool.

Apologies for skipping you, @ehiker133, but I could see that the party had a "lock" on victory, and I didn't want to leave Robur and Willie in limbo.
