"And now we stand here, stranded and punished for my foolishness. Perhaps the old Deacon was right - I am not fit to wear the the Seal." Pelenwin will then offer his assistance to Wibert in hopes that he is more clever and cunning with traps than a young, militant knight.

"Here you are," Ulric says handing the scepter over to Dieter. "I still have my lantern. Let's go find the other two; I agree that we need to flee this place but we cannot leave them behind; not even the templar."
Ulric directs the light of his lantern into the pit for a moment to see if anything is visible or moving.
"I could try to throw another ball of fire into the pit, but I cannot guarantee that it will work. Shall I try?"

"Unfortunately," Dieter explains, "my plan rather involved us all being together. Let's fall back while you look for those two; we can at least draw these vile things away from our friends."

"Wait... It looks like they die for the others just fine. But the ones we were fighting kept coming back for more... and they seem to be attracted to your light. Do you think it has some weird effect on them? Like it rejuvenates them? Should we try to put it out and see if they don't stay down for good?"

The First Vault
(Most of the Company)
On the near stair, Gustave presses his attack against the backs of the walking dead (1d20=6) scarcely catching the last of them as he jaunts through the dying oil fire upon the stair, (2dd=1,1) clipping it for 4 hit points. Above him, Josiane, Highbough, Dorgan and Guntram are in the exit passage...
The small knot of four undead are climbing the far stair.
There is a lot of chatter among those just arrived there. Ulric hands the bright scepter back to Olaf while Dieter holds the top of the far stair -- watching the undead jerk and lurch awkwardly toward him preceded by a loathsome stench and a palpable wave a hatred.
"Subfusc" says Olaf, and the light from the scepter dims to an ember, then winks out altogether. There is then only the orange light of the dying oil fire upon the stair, Ulric's lantern, and Josiane's torch light, just visible, in the exit passage. The great vault seems awfully dim and cold.
Desmond/Mondes, Olaf and Ulric turn back toward the Second Vault, in search of Wibert and Pelenwin, the way illuminated only by Ulric's lantern.

The Passage into The First Vault
(Guntram, Dorgan, Highbough, Josiane)
Guntram hefts his shield nervously in the passage, with Highbough immediately behind him. The old Elf barks something withering in the Infernal Tongue, stinging the ears of those present...
...while behind them in the passage way Josiane frees another torch from her backpack, while explaining the situation to Dorgan, and then fires the second torch with the first.
Ahead Guntram and Highbough both feel a knot of ice in the pits of their stomachs as a foe most terrible emerges silently from the dark in the mouth of the passage.
"Ssseeee mmmeeeee at youuurrrr peehhhhrrrriiilllll!" it hisses; the aberration is tall and swathed in tattered black robe and cowl which reveals inhumanly white and withered flesh, long thin arms with long black claws, and a face with feral fangs and terrible black pits of eyes.
