Immersive Ink

Wiglaff will cast darkvision on himself. With the ladder secured at the top, he'll cling to the end and the party can lower him slowly (and mostly silently) down, with another rope alongside for signalling (one tug for "pull me back up", two tugs for "come on down").

Due to his darkvision, Wiglaff can see as if it is daylight, and this is a good thing, or he would have not noticed a large black mound of gelatinous goo lurking under the ogre's cooking pot

Wiglaff gives the "pull me up" signal. Once at the top:

"Change of plans! There's some big black ooze-y thing down there (but no ogres that I've seen). How many flasks of oil have we got? and a torch!"

Plan? Lower Wiglaff down with a bunch of oil flasks. He'll toss them down and cover the floor (hopefully get some directly on the ooze/slime/jelly/pudding as well), and then toss a torch. Pull him up swiftly, and we wait till the smoke stops pouring up the chute before we go down and check on whether the thing is fried.

OK. I thought Maloof would have had some oil, but he's only stocked up on Holy Water.

It looks like Wiglaff's porter Edgar is carrying 5 flasks of oil. Wiglaff will use those, since Edgar now has the ever-burning torch with which to light the way.

The activity is performed, and a huge whoosh is heard (and felt by Wiglaff) as the oil ignites, and he is pulled up. You wait 10 minutes or so

Once the smoke is bearable, Wiglaff will volunteer once more to be lowered, but very slowly this time. He's worried that the pudding may have survived and is now climbing up the chute to devour him.

About halfway down, Wiglaff can see, thanks to his darkvision, his worst fears realized as the black blob is coming up the chute

More oil down the chute!

If Wiglaff has oil readily to hand, he gives the "pull me" signal, then smashes the oil just below his feet! Meanwhile, he starts shouting exactly that:

Assuming Wiglaff reaches the top safely, pour more oil down & light it up!

Franklin (by my count) has 3 flasks of oil. Once Wiglaff has reached safety, Franklin will add more oil to the fire.
