Dougal is very suspicious about unguarded chests in the middle of rooms. He uses his sling to fire a stone at the chest.

Dougal's slingstone hits the side of the chest and bounces off, harmlessly. (DM makes a secret Listen check.) From the hollow sound it makes, Dougal suspects the chest is at least partially empty.
Dame Simonetta sees nothing scary on the ceiling. She looks to the south and sees a fork with passageways heading NW and SE.

"Do we have enough shields to create a wall over our heads, and in front of us to check that out?" Noh asks the other's quietly. "You see anything out of the ordinary my friend?" He asks Carc.

The lid of the chest is held shut by a simple metal latch. There's a place where you could attach a padlock if you wanted to, but there is no lock currently in place.

Bilfur asks, "we going to look inside the chest to make sure we miss nothing? This chest looks nice for the inn"

"I'm know I'm the new fellow in the group," says Robur slowly walking towards the chest to examine it up close and try to open it. "But I agree with Bilfur. It'd be a shame if we didn't check inside the chest. It does look nice. And, there might be a precious bottle of mead inside!"

"I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a good nose for sniffing out traps..." Beppo said loudly, hoping this would finally give him a chance to appear useful. He wanted to move carefully around the chest, checking to see if it seemed attached to anything or anchored to the floor. Then he would push the whole chest over the length of one foot to get it out of the position it was in and, if that worked, try to tip the chest over, face up and away from him, so the lid would hopefully just fall open.

Robur stops walking and says, "Yes, good idea Beppo. How about I first check for traps leading up to the chest?" Robur starts to kneel down and starts to tap the floor ahead of him with his cudgel and when satisfied the floor is safe, gradually moves forward towards the chest.

Dame Simonetta remains watching the southern passage while the others investigate the chest.
