Very good.

As the the shadow lengthen, and the wan sun dips below the horizon, Ulric and Dieter stand the first watch.

Thorgrim's coal burns hot and slow, with a low blue-white flame that produces almost no smoke. It is a boon indeed, for the weather soon turns chill, and a coughing wind is roused, which pushes in brief squalls of cold rain which never really get started, but continue to keep the flesh wet...

...howls of strange beasts echo across the hills, even above the wind, making for a nervous few hours. But eventually Ulric and Dieter deem their watch done, and it time to wake the halflings...

Wibert and Desmond take the middle watch. The night is windy, intermittently wet and very dark. The two fellows are very glad for Thorgrim's coal, which burns on and on without waning.

In their formidable wisdom (5 and 6) the two Halflings get to chatting about "back home", sipping what little port and brandy they have left on them as they share the gossip they last heard from the East Farthing. It's all years old, of course, but it warms a Halfling heart to taste a fine liqueur and talk about home, and before a few hours are gone the pair of them are nodding off...

At last Thorgrim's coal burns down to its last coals, while the old Elf and young Man keep their vigil...

As the first grey light of dawn seeps into the dark sky, Olaf finds himself pacing about to keep warm. But at least the wind has stilled somewhat...

The ground is muddy and wet, and their is standing pools between the wet and grumpy company members as they slowly rouse to the cold new day.

"Next time we need to find someplace drier to travel," Ulric mutters as he gathers his personal gear. He gets some travel rations then finds the driest place he can to study his books.

OOC: Ulric will memorize the Somnolence.

Mads the Fair

"That time of year, my friend." Mads yawns, stretching out. Eating of his rations, he says "I'm eager to get back to civilization, but I fear what we may find there. The Keep, then, seems like the rational next stop--it buzzes in my mind like an angry hornet."

He pauses, thinking for a moment. "Shall we leave the cart here, with a few guards, and approach the Keep on foot--stealth-like and watchful?"
