ooc: From the house rules ... "Healing takes a full turn (10 minutes)"... So I assume Wen will almost hit bottom by the time you've all had a nice breather. Follow the lights when you are ready... Assuming I have not been eaten by the Grue.

Dieter is feeling much better from the healing, but is a bit concerned about the rest of the party. If we're facing this stuff, what are they up against?

Agreed. Once our ten minute heal is up, if they haven't found us, we should seek them out.
Of course, at that point we'll probably be wondering where the hell Wen is...

After his 10 minutes of resting is up, Desmond will head down the stairs, shield braced and sword drawn, to help/keep an eye on/back up Wen.
"We aren't leaving here without something for our troubles," Desmond says flatly as he binds his wounds.
"Argh... treasure..." Mondes adds in his best pirate voice (which doesn't end up being much different from his normal voice.)

Dieter, Desmond/Mondes, and Dorgan are all busy with washing their hurts, refitting armour, strapping belts and packs, and generally setting themselves aright, and Josiane is preoccupied with her mendicant prayer.
In short, nobody is on watch for a turn...

And The Gustave strides in, catching everyone by surprise.
He finds it is Josiane humming her prayer of recuperation of Dieter, which she shortly completes, and Dieter is cured of {1d6=4} 5 hit points.
Their resting then done, Dieter, Dorgan and Desmond recoup {1d6; 1, 2, 3} 1, 2 and 3 hp, respectively.
Dieter now has 11/18 hp.
Dorgan has 11/19.
Desmond/Mondes has 12/15.

Meanwhile, Wen begins to light the sorry ruin with candles, setting one upon the balustrade every 30ft or so by melting the wax at the bottom and sticking it to the wood.
In this way he progresses most of the way to the ground proper, traversing the spiral library and cringing in dismay at the utter ruin and loss of knowledge here. Centuries of work, copying tome after tome and scroll after scroll and map after map, all gone to ash. It's horrific.
With his animated flame ahead of him, Wen spies the ground whereupon he sees the heaped remains of furniture, and what must have been hundreds of books, and who know what else. All reduced to a mound of char and ash. The stuff is certainly piled in the form of a giant bird's nest, and in the center of it all are piled human remains.
This must surely be the thing's lair..?

"Ah...there you are", says Gustave, as if just relocating a friend at a busy party. He pauses to sheath his blade, and take in the mound of hewn offal on the floor that he has just stepped in.
"I see you have been making new friends", he observes, lifting a mailed foot from the sticky black ooze, "and it looks as though it almost had the better of you my friend", he adds, with a concerned look at Dieter.
"I am gladdened to see that you are well, my dear", he says with a nod to Josianne, and thumps Dorgan on the back, "My good dwarf!"
"I am sorry to intrude on your little interlude, but we've come across a er...flaming daemon...thing", he continues, "quite unpleasant."

Wen frowns a bit at the bodies, a little display of sorrow for the fallen. He would float the candles in closer to see if anything is hiding in the mess. Once satisfied he would start to poke around with his staff. If nothing bursts out to get him he'd set about to work.
Wen would first allow a floating candle to rise to the top of the opening in hopes of signaling the others, once it made it's way to top he would imitate the hooting of an Owl. Then he'd find a good spot to place his torch and begin to search the nest. He would bring out a small sack to place anything he finds in. Trying to keep an ear and eye, when possible, open for any approaching noises.

Desmond cautiously heads down the stairs. Once at the bottom, he'll help Wen search the area.
