Still in Japan for an other week on holidays, still may not post much, but looking forward to continuing to play in 2011.

Waysoftheearth, What sort of changes were you planning on making to the rules?

Most of the changes would be minor tweaks which you will hardly notice. For example, a PC's "chance in 6" due to ability scores will be in the range 0 to 4, XP bonuses will become multiples of 5%, attack adjustment will be determined according to HD rather than level, and so on.

The most significant change will be regarding spell use. In order to encourage a the use of more diverse spells, I want to return to a slightly adjusted Vancian model.

It would look something like this (for wizards):

...Magic-User Spell Memory
------------------------------
Memory...... Spell Level
Level*..1...2...3...4...5...6
==============================
..0**...1...-...-...-...-...-
..1.....2...-...-...-...-...-
..2.....2...1...-...-...-...-
..3.....2...2...-...-...-...-
..4.....3...2...1...-...-...-
..5.....3...2...2...-...-...-
..6.....3...2...2...1...-...-
..7.....4...3...2...2...-...-
..8.....4...3...2...2...1...-
..9.....4...3...2...2...2...-
.10***..4...3...3...2...2...1
.11****.4...4...3...2...2...2

*....A Magic-User's Memory Level is equal to his experience level adjusted by +1 if his intelligence is 14 to 17, or by +2 if his intelligence is 18 or more.
**...Apprentices (0th level) with 9 to 13 intelligence.
***..Arch Mages (9th level) with 14 to 17 intelligence.
**** Arch Mages (9th level) with 18 or more intelligence.

Templars and Warlocks would have a similar table but with different rates of advancement.

Under this model, it would not be possible to memorise multiple "copies" of the same spell.

Of course, none of these changes will actually come into play until after the company next returns safely to town
