Thanks very much Ehiker--awesome job! :D

I'm assuming that all players will add their own XP bonus (if any) and record their final XP total on their own PC sheet.

XP Bonus! That's right, I get one of those! Thanks for the reminder.

Before you post any actions in the current adventure thread, PLEASE go to your character sheet and make sure it is up to date. It is the player's responsibility to track their own XP, Coin, Items Purchased, Items Used, etc. This is part of the game.

Also, I can see when a character sheet was last edited, so... ;)

Freid still has 0 XP and his starting HP, so no change there, but coin? I don' t know how much he has after working for The Herald and digging ditches for Manfred, paying for his living expenses and buying another week's worth of food for the expedition. Tell me what I've got and I'll update Freid's character sheet.

No idea. I didn't track any of that. How much did the Herald pay you? What did WOTE say people would get paid for digging ditches? Add those together. Subtract 7sp for living expenses. Subtract 15sp for food if trail rations or 7sp for food if perishables. That should get you the proper total.

I covered his living expenses for the week. 7 sp.

I've been studying the intricacies of the "numbers appearing" rule recently; turns out that OD&D is hard on players in this.

By the book we'd expect to encounter 1-6 first level monsters (such as goblins), on the 1st dungeon level, per 3 players. With a group of 12 players (such as we currently have here) we'd expect 4-24 goblins on the 1st dungeon level. Hobgoblins are second level monsters, so we might expect fewer of them on the 1st dungeon level. OD&D doesn't say so explicitly but that might be the basis of a practical house rule.

The Delving Deeper V4 rule (which Hinterlands is largely based on) is a bit buggy around numbers appearing--having a similar issue to the Holmes (1977) rule. DD gives fixed numbers appearing which don't provide variation by player numbers or by dungeon level. E.g., DD V4 has 2-12 hobgoblins appearing, which follows OD&D neatly for 4-6 players on the 2nd dungeon level, but will be too few monsters for more players or for deeper levels.

These kinds of numbers are why plate armor, missiles, surprise, and the morale rules are critical for player success!
