Yes, it should.
I have played about with several variations of the helmet rule and, upon consideration, I want to amend the helmet rule here to:

If a figure wearing a helmet takes a head-hit (6 hp):
1. The helmet is knocked off,
2. The helmet must save or be ruined,
3. The figure sustains 1-6 hp damage (result of a new roll).

So effectively, the helmet will ablate 0-5 hp damage as it is knocked off.

Sounds good! Thanks for clarifying!

@riftstone please don't have Faengol throw a dagger at the hobgoblin while Menno is engaged with him in melee :) Also — I believe daggers are "not generally suitable for throwing" per the house rules!

Ranged attacks into melee are usually a bad idea in most OSR rule sets.

How many friendly fire hits have we had so far in this game? 8-)

None yet. But the game is young! ;)

Having had several characters who were recipients of friendly fire (leading to character death in one instance), I can offer first hand experience that it isn't a good way to create a bond of fellowship among party members.

I had assumed Faengol would toss the dagger before melee was re-engaged. If this is not the case, he will not throw it!

From the house rules:
* PCs and important NPCs are incapacitated at 0 hit-points. They can crawl, beg, and utter famous last words, but that is all. Any unhindered foe can automatically perform a coup de grace and end it all.

* PCs and important NPCs are slain instantly at-1 or fewer hit points.

* Mooks are slain instantly at 0 or fewer hit points.
