Dieter is unfamiliar with the role of victim, so he draws his dagger and stabs upward. This thing has to have some kind of weak point...

The sight of her friends in peril overcomes Josiane's desire to flee, though in truth it is a close run thing. Offering up a desperate prayer she hurls herself at the abomination, using her shield to fend off its tentacles as best she can while at the same time trying to drive the sword of Jehan deep into the vile brain-pan...

It's all in then.

{Wen and Josiane have to cross the room to engage, so will attack last. Initiative is rolled 1d6; Dieter=6+1, Dorgan=1, Desmond/Mondes=4, The Thing=6. Dieter attacks with dagger d20=12,2, misses. The Thing replies d20=20,11, one hit for d6=4 hp. Desmond attacks d20=12,8, misses. Dorgan attacks d20=9,1 misses. Wen attacks d20=10 misses. Josiane attacks d20=18,10 one hit for d6=2 hp. Dieter saves versus petrification d20=13, success (needed a 10+).}

Dieter whips out his belt dagger and tries to fend off the horrid thing looming over him, but the mass of creeping twisting tentacles entwine about him, sending sharp jolts of electricity crackling across his body repeatedly. It's agony, but somehow the big man remains conscious.

As the aberration scoops Dieter bodily from the floor in its writhing tentacles Dorgan, Desmond, Wen and Josiane all fly to his aid, but in all the shouting and confusion they confound one another and only Josiane deals more than a glancing blow, severing one of the many tentacles with her blade.

The enemy is beginning to levitate back and up, carrying Dieter aloft to some awful fate...

What now?

{Dieter is down to but one solitary hit point }

Wen will keep his leer focused on the thing hoping the smoldering will soon begin to tell. He would also take another jab with the torch hoping to inflict some pain and damage to it.

"Lady, help me to help my friend," Josiane whispers through gritted teeth, her fair face begrimed with the hot sweat of battle and the cold chill of fear.

She strikes again at the horror, concentrating on trying to sever the tentacles entwining Dieter as long as there is no risk of hitting her friend.

If this is impossible, she'll try and spike the horrid thing on the point of her sword!
