Olaf uses the rope to climb the outer wall, and with none-too-little effort, reaches the rooftop behind the mysterious old Elf.
Meanwhile, Highbough glances about the abbey from his rooftop perch, looking primarily down into a large, enclosed vegetable garden that is surrounded on all sides by austere buildings and complete with a central pond.
The two primary structures appear to be a broad but otherwise plain chapel, and the tall, narrow bell tower. The other buildings, including the one he is perched upon, are rather unremarkable. They all have whitewashed stone walls and grey slate shingles over their pitched roofs. The stone work is age-pocked and festooned with lichen, and sports minor gargoyles at the roof apexes.
It's not exactly clear which building the front gate opens into, although it is possible to guess with reasonable accuracy -- somewhere beyond the chapel, approximately there...
The relics are probably in the chapel don't you think? Maybe we should go there first.

The Rooftops
(Highbough and Olaf)
Highbough extends his vigil over the vegetable garden, and buildings opposite.
The bell ceases its din at last, leaving the scene entirely peaceful. Curious that all should be so... still, muses the old Elf to himself...

The Camp Site
(Envongr, Garven, and Murphy the Mule)
After the bell stops its ringing and nothing further appears to happen, b)Garven(/b) gives up watching the abbey, and giving Envongr a gruff smile says "Looks like we got the better end of it, eh lad? Who knows what they're up to in there, but the farther I stay from these Holier Than Thou sorts the better!"
With that he sits down on a boulder and begins to pack a pipe with dried tobacco.
"You smoke?" he asks after a time.

"Hey Highbrough!" Olaf says rather sharply, "Don't go to sleep!"
"Let's get down from this roof and head for that big building...the chapel, probably." Olaf says, "That's a good place to look for those relics the Mother Superior told us to recover."
Olaf will look to tie the rope off around a chimney, or to one of the gargoyles along the roof so he can use it to climb down.

Highbough mutters something about "giving up the high ground" and grumpily follows Olaf down the rope, which chafes his aged hands.

After Olaf secures the rope, he casts the length of it over the edge of the building -- into the interior space of the abbey.
Or so he thinks.
But instead the world seems to ripple impossibly and all of the rope that passes over the edge of the roof vanishes from sight!

(OOC: Ways, can you remind me your house rules (if any) for recasting spells? If Highbough wants to cast the Smaze again, what's the process? Is our rope long enough to reach the chapel roof/window/balcony? (assuming it has not been swallowed by the void))

"Whoa!" Olaf stands up and steps back from the edge still holding his end of the rope, "There is magic down there!"
"We better check this out further before going down.", He will pull the rope back up to see if it emerges from where ever it just went, unharmed.
