Struggling for life, Dougal strikes back at the nearest skeleton with his short sword.

OOC: I will wait a bit longer to hear from Willie and Bilfur. As Bilfur is the "squishiest" party member, this fight is a big deal for him.

Wilbur isn't too sure how much damage a sword will do against bones with no meat on them.

So he hikes up his shield and launches himself, shield first, at the nearest skeleton, like a small but determined battering ram.
I will allow this shield bash vs. the skeletons.

I've already ruled in the past, that characters can use defensive parrying daggers (like shields) so shield bash seems like a good corollary to that.

Dougal uses his parrying dagger like a shield and shield-bashes the skeleton!

"Get back, Bilfur! We'll handle this!"

Quite peeved at being surprised -- who puts skeletons behind a nice secret door like that? -- and additionally roused by the pain of his wounds, Willie swings Chegs' warhammer in a furious attack on the nearby skeletons!

Skeleton Battle Round 1

The party wins initiative over the slow-moving skeletons. Willie, Wilbur, Kiplyn, and Dougal each drop one of the skeletons (leaving a total of 8 left in the fight). Wilbur's improvised shield-bash technique is an impressive sight!

Dame Simonetta presents the Owl Medallion and amazingly, the remaining skeletons are rebuked! They cower in fear and retreat back through the door into the secret room. Things looked bleak for our heroes, but then just like that, the immediate threat is over!

Peering through the secret door, the hobbets can see that the secret room is bigger than the 30' radius of lantern light, and the skeletons have moved away into the darkness to the south. The secret room has the appearance of a barracks: There is a tidy row of cots, each with a locker at the foot of the cot. Apart from the skeletons' footsteps, everything in this area has a thick coating of dust, and looks like it hasn't been disturbed for many years.

(I will assume no party members have yet stepped through the secret door, out of caution. I will do a map update, if the party decides to pass through the door and explore the room.)
Party wins initiative 3-2

Melee attacks:

Kiplyn backstab 18 hit for 5hp (kill)
Wilbur shield bash 20, 18, two hits for 2hp (kill) and 1hp (wound)
Dougal 1, 19 hit for 3hp finishing off the skeleton wounded by Wilbur
Willie 18, 15 two hits for 5hp (kill) and 2hp (wound)
(Bilfur stays back)

Dame Simonetta Turn Undead 2d6=10, success! How many skeletons are turned? 2d6=8 or all of the remaining skeletons.

Dame Simonetta's already not-insignificant ego has been inflated by this latest turn of events. She wants to enter the secret room with her Owl Medallion of Athena held on high, standing between the party and the skeletons while her companions search and loot, and states her intention to all present.

Kiplyn stands over his skeleton target and shifts the bones around with his foot but has nothing but questions. "Who do you suppose these here Spider Guards were? Do you suppose they will attack us again if we go through the door?

"Not if we stay behind the Dame with the medallion," Dougal says with confidence, following Dame Simonetta into the room.

When she is safely ahead of the first trunk, he examines it to see if it is safe to open.
Dougal searches for traps on the trunk.

Wilbur will enter and stand next to Dame Simonetta, with his shield held in readiness.
