Dougal shakes his head and says, "No... that doesn't sound quite right."

He clears his throat and says to the wall, "You do not talk about ADVENTURE CLUB."

"Athena" Dame Simonetta will venture aloud if Dougal's words don't work.

Each time one of the hobbets speaks, the secret door responds with mechanical clicking and clacking noises. But the door remains locked. It would seem our heroes just aren't saying the correct pass-word or pass-phrase.

Dame Simonetta recites the remaining rules, speaking more loudly than normal to cover the buzzing in her head: "Especially not to HUMANS. NO SPOILERS for new members of the Club. No snooping around town or causing trouble with the humans. Do not give in to Chaos! If this is your first time at ADVENTURE CLUB, you MUST enter the dungeon!"

Willie stands by, thinking furiously but unable to come up with any ideas. He waits to see whether Dame S's passphrases have any effect.

Secret Door

When Dame Simonetta speaks the phrase "Do not give in to Chaos!" the secret door bursts open, comically spilling the waiting skeletons out into the room!

The skeletons have no chance of being surprised by the party. They have been waiting mindlessly for countless years, pressed up against the door, waiting for someone to release them. (Furthermore, they overheard the party's fight with the centipedes.)

Our heroes, however, ignore all warning signs (Wilbur faintly heard the sound of their bony fingers scratching on the stone door, and Dame Simonetta's owl medallion tried to warn her) and are surprised by the skeletons!

12 animated skeletons spill forth in a chaotic jumble of bones and swarm over the party. They are wearing ancient silk robes embroidered with the sigil of a spider. Only Kiplyn (who is hiding in the shadows) is safe from their attack.

Bilfur nimbly sidesteps a pair of skeletons and is uninjured, but Dame Simonetta, Wilbur, Willie, and Dougal all take wounds as the skeletons rend them with their bony fingers!

The surprise round is a disaster for the party. Our heroes are wounded and outnumbered! Will they rally and overcome the skeletal spider cultists? Tune in next episode!
Surprise 1d6=6, the party is surprised!

Surprise Round:
vs Dame Simonetta 14, 2, 19 hit once for 3hp dropping her to 5/9hp
vs Willie 15, 5, 14 hit twice for 2+3=5hp to 6/11hp
vs Wilbur 18, 5 hit once for 3hp to 9/12hp
vs Dougal 1, 17 hit once for 3hp to 7/10hp
vs Bilfur 2, 5 both miss

What next??

Kiplyn watches the chaos unfold from his nook. He waits for his moment to spring out a strike with his dagger once the Skeletons are all engaged with the rest of the party.....

Dame Simonetta will hold her medallion up high and abjure the skeletons: "By the mercy of Athena, return to the rest of death!"

Wilbur isn't too sure how much damage a sword will do against bones with no meat on them.

So he hikes up his shield and launches himself, shield first, at the nearest skeleton, like a small but determined battering ram.
