Now with Dieter and Josiane in the front ranks, Desmond holds his flaming brand up in the air and spits and mutters to himself, looking remarkably like Mondes...
Even Mondes is seemingly cowed as his counterpart rants over useless weapons and mutters something about wishing he had Highbough's spear, if just for a moment...
"... I could blink behind these bastards and shove that spear right up their wolfman arses..."
After gritting his teeth in anger once more, he shouts, "But I don't have his spear, so it looks like this torch is going to have to do!" as if everyone else had heard the first part of his personal dialog of mutterings.
With nothing else to do, he puts his silver whistle back in his mouth and begins blowing furiously, hoping to irritate the wolfmen enough that they're not able to concentrate on fighting.
Mondes sighs in relief as the other head shuts up for a bit...

The Blighted Passage
(Josiane, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan, Dieter and Wen)
The wolfmen snarl and curse in an awful tongue (which Josiane recognises as the dreaded Stygian) and fight on as if possessed!
{No need to check morale. Initiative is rolled 1d6; Dieter=5+1, Josiane=6, Wolfmen=2. Josiane attacks 1d20=6,11, Dieter attacks 1d20=17,9, hits once for 6!. Wolfmen attack 1d20=14,18,14,14, Dieter is hit once for 1d6=1 damage}
Desmond/Mondes blasts upon his whistle furiously while the hack and clang of weapons, and swearing and howling continues.
Dieter scores what would be a fatal blow to a Man -- but these things aren't Men, and his foe fights on, scratching our hero in reply. Josiane and her opponent seem evenly matched -- though it seems to shake its head madly at some unseen irritation -- and neither overtly harms the other in the exchange of attacks.
Wen keeps an eye on the passage behind... but there is no sign of the wolves returning. Yet.
Dorgan notes with some satisfaction that the party are slowly gaining ground... they've pushed the wolfmen back 10ft or so.
{
Dieter has 6/18 hit points.
Dorgan has 9/19 hit points.
Desmond/Mondes has 9/15 hit points.
Josiane has 12/12 hit points.
}
{Desmond's whistle just saved Josiane from two hits!

Noting its effect, Desmond continues with the whistle blowing.

Wen still with Torch and Staff will continue guarding the other passage. He would pull one of the candles back from the passage and send it zipping at the wolfman that is fighting Josiane in hopes of making it flinch. With a flick of his fingers he would cause it to dart around the eyes and head of the savage beast.

Dorgan will continue to watch for the return of the wolves at their heels but he's less concerned about them now that Desmond continues to play a tune on his wolf whistle.

"Language!" snaps Josiane at her foul-mouthed opponent and attempts to improve its manners by burying her axe between its eyes.
She notes the irritation the whistling is having on her foe and silently blesses her heaven-sent two-headed hobbit!

It's never a bad day when you can work a little alliteration into a PbP game using the phrase "two-headed hobbit", am I right?

The Blighted Passage
(Josiane, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan, Dieter and Wen)
Desmond/Mondes continues to blast his inaudible whistle, and Wen directs his mote of light to harass the enemy as the fighting continues.
{No need to check morale. Initiative is rolled 1d6; Dieter=5+1, Josiane=3, Wolfmen=5. Dieter attacks 1d20=3,6, misses. Wolfmen attack 1d20=18,1,8,14, Dieter is hit once for 1d6=1 hit point. Josiane attacks 1d20=14,20! hits twice for 2d6=5,6=11!}
Dieter is quick, but can't land a telling blow, but his opponent does -- dealing him yet another scratch for 1. The other wolfman narrowly misses Josiane (saved by the whistle a third time!) before she delivers a telling series of blows and righteous verses, culminating in a crushing axe blow between the eyes, for a total of 11 hit points. The wolfman gives a whimper and drops dead.
Dorgan continues to watch the rear.
A single, wounded wolfman remains. What now?
{
Dieter has 5/18 hit points.
Dorgan has 9/19 hit points.
Desmond/Mondes has 9/15 hit points.
Josiane has 12/12 hit points.

"Finish him!" Desmond tries not to shout, desperately wishing he could get a blow in himself.
He notes the continued effect of the whistle, however, and blows through it yet again.

With a feral smile, Dieter presses his attack on the final wolfman, maneuvering so that both he and Josiane can attack effectively.
(OOC: Now that Dieter is down to his familiar 5 hit points, he feels strangely at peace...)
