By this time Dorgan and Josiane have reached the bottom of the stair, and found that a dark passage leads directly ahead, while immediately to the right there is a closed door.

All is dark and cool below, and it is a happiness that Mads brings with him a burning torch...

Dorgan rumbles into a dark, but apparently crowded space. These dang Snorks have better dark-vision even than do Dwarfs!

Josiane comes close on Dorgan's heels, and both of them hear door closing hurriedly from somewhere across the scarcely illuminated chamber. They can't make out the door, but Dorgan thinks he can see a clutter of bulky tables scattered throughout the space.

There is a smell of stale tobacco and exotic spices in the air.

Percy aims and fires just as the charging mutt leaps at him (1d20=20!) and by the Gods his aim is true!

(4dd=1,1,5,4) the bolt buries itself in the dog's breast for a painful 5 hit points. But it isn't enough to stop the enraged animal and it flings itself at Percy on the stair (2d20=1,2) but he fends it off skilfully with his empty crossbow...

When he does illuminate the room it is obvious that this place is a gambling den of sorts. The tables are surfaced with green and red felt and fitted with wheels of chance and decks for dice and card games. They are of rather luxurious appearance, as are most of the stools and seats around the room.

Dorgan is already at the far door, which is closed.
