Crystin passes an iron spike from her pack to Caine so that he can free the second gem more easily (each statue having a pair of gem eyes). She then shuffles across to give the Man better purchase on the prize. Standing upon her willing shoulders, he reaches eagerly for the glimmering stone... (1d6)...

As he does so there is an audible snap from behind, and the massive stone axe and sword held aloft by the two statues swing savagely down from above the doorway (saving throws Caine, Crystin; 1d20=12, 4) striking both the treausre hunters by surprise. Caine suffers a heavy blow to the back, and then falls prone from Crystin's shoulders for (2dd=4,3) 4 hit points of damage. Crystine, trying to dodge the descending axe is instead smitten by the sword for (2dd=2,6) 6 hit points of damage.

With the pillagers both knocked to the ground, the great stone weapons grind mechanically back into their ancient ready position.

Crystin is incapacitated on 0 of 6 hit points.
Caine has 4 of 8 hit points remaining.

Crystin quickly cries out to Cairn before he goes to the rope, "Don't go but stay and help dress and bind my wounds now my friend, or I may die next round without aid". They do this for a turn to stop the bleeding and recover 1d6 hit-points. "I can heal you also when I am better", she says. Crystin will also help dress and bind her wounds, then Cairns. She then jokes, "I guess we should have looked for traps before hand".

Caine has only secured the first of four gems. he was reaching for the second when the trap was sprung.

No.

While incapacitated you cannot do much more than drag yourself along the ground or feebly beg for help. You will not "bleed out" and die, but any foe can automatically capture you, slay you, or loot your stuff while you helplessly watch.

Then there is silence for a time.

One by one, the four Men notice that the strange chill seems to have passed, and all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Olaf and Rodrick are already backing away...
