Crystin offers using iron spikes as a chisel and hammer if it will help to remove the gems. After we remove the gems and pocket them Crystin suggests to Caine we rejoin the party for greater safety. If nothing else stops us. I will send my pack up first tied to the rope, then climb up myself, then pull the rope up. Then I will leave my winter blanket in the cell so I am not encumbered.

Ulric considers their options. Spiking the door may prevent whatever abominations remain on the other side from breaking through. Doing so may also draw them, or other creatures, out from wherever they may be hiding.

"Olaf, guard our backs. Roderick and I will hold the door while Mads hammers in the spike. The sound of battle awoke those walking dead before, but they may not be able to move our combined weight."

Mads the Fair

Mads considers for a moment, and decides to use the flat of the axe's handle instead. With one hand on the handle and another on the head to stabilize, Mads finds it a bit awkward but more than passable for the job.

Dieter grips his sword more tightly and raises his shield. There is a tension in the air that, in it's own way, is almost worse than those walking dead.

Olaf has his bow ready and is guarding the backs of those at the door. He is far enough back so if those in front of him are forced back they won't run into him before he can fire. Standing in the corridor Olaf looks one way and then the other for any dangers, and waits for Mads to hammer in the spikes.

At the door.

Rodrick leans on the door, and Ulric leans on his back, applying as much weight as they can to the portal as Mads thumps the iron spike home with the but of his hand-axe haft. One, two, three resounding thuds ring clearly through the gloomy passages while Olaf guards the rear...

...almost immediately the hairs on all four Men's necks bristle in alarm, and their spines tingle in frantic warning as the air becomes icy cold! Something dread approaches form the other side of the door as Mads somehow manages to drive the spike home with a final clatter, and then the door itself shivers as the handle is tried from beyond. When it doesn't give the whole door frame shudders with a powerful blow from beyond... and then another...
