Pelenwin will assist Gustave in pulling up Koch. "hang in just a moment longer!" he says, rushing to aid. If necessary, he will offer Koch a the half of his pole axe as a lever to lift him from the ravine.

"Don't hold him, hold me!", grunts Gustave as Pelenwin wafts past him with his pole axe.

He struggles to keep the rope life-line taught across the gap, and yells to those still standed, "Climb over here you fools!", somewhat incredulous that noone has noticed the ropes existance. Doubtless, their thoughts are with bigger issues.

Despite the best efforts of those pulling on him, Gustave does not pull Koch up, but maintains the tension in the rope (which is attached to the keep) so that others may use it to cross the gap.

It doesn't take more than a moment for the old Elf to spot an old breach in the wall which he can grasp with an outstretched arm, and haul himself up into the gap to survey the courtyard within. It is much like the one opposite -- only far more overgrown. The grasses within are strewn with ancient rocks from the tumbledown walls, and are otherwise almost thigh high. There is no sign of activity within...

There is some confusion over who is going to do the assisting, but in the end Gustave hold the rope taut so that those on the opposite ledge can make good their escape, while Pelenwin follows Desmond back onto the bridge, grasping the rope firmly in one hand, and the back of the Halfling's belt in the other. Desmond barrels out hastily and reaches down to offer Koch is hand...

At the same moment as Olaf rappels down into the canyon, the Giant climbs up onto the front wall of Saxxon's keep, and swings its massive club through the gatehouse courtyard...

Beyond the rear wall of the gatehouse, pressed on by desperate need of haste Andaros makes his unsure attempt to cross the bridge, clinging to the fat sack of coins in one hand and Gustave's rope with the other... (1d6=1) but alas, his timing is ill! Almost as soon as he is committed to his run, the Giant's club crashes into the left hand tower with biblical force! Rocks and timbers splinter and tumble loudly down and Andaros slips sideways as the entire bridge reverberates at the impact!

(1d20=12)

"Aayyeeeiiiiii!" screams Andaros as he falls failing into the ravine. There is a distinct crunch as he hits the rocky ground (6dd=6,6,6,3,3,4) for 18 hit points.

He is dead before the dust even settles.

"Frig!" swear Koch, Desmond and Pelenwin collectively, scarcely able to hold on as the bridge trembles. But hold on they do!

And now Dieter springs into the air by the sorcery bound within the Ring of Gambado. He shoots up, somersaults at the apex of his arc, then lands with a threatening thud upon the rear tower so that his gaze is almost level with the baleful stare of the Giant.

Ssshhhhhwingg! Dieter's notched sword slides free of its sheath with a deadly grace as he stares at the horrific thing ten times his own size.

"Talk to the blade," he hisses at the monster... only distantly aware of the hobgoblin troops now swarming up to the scattered front wall. He only has eyes for this most deadly foe.

And then the Giant bellows and attacks!

Boris looks at the bridge with a nervous gulp, and Victor at Olaf's rope.

"I'm for the canyon," hacks Victor, and doesn't even wait for Boris' reply before he grabs it and positions himself to rappel down after Olaf.

Boris' face turns deathly white as he grabs Gustave's rope tightly with both mitts and prepares to chance the bridge...
