Is there any way to avoid being attacked? I assumed that being on the wall presents no options of retreat (hence the spell casting), but I could be mistaken.
Is defensive fighting still allowed?

Ulric could throw himself (backward) over the wall, or other players could intervene?
Otherwise, it will be Ulric vs.
The Wolf in a bloody hand to hand trial. Yes, defensive fighting is an option (and a respectable one when you are otherwise AC 9); it is officially called "parrying":
DD3 Vol2 p15 wrote:
A defender can forgo his attack to parry and cause an opponent to suffer a −4 attack penalty. Should his opponent miss despite this penalty the defender is allowed a counter-attack if equipped with a lighter weapon. However, should this penalty cause an attack to miss, a lighter weapon will be dashed from the defender’s grasp by a heavier weapon.
The wolf-men, being man-sized, will figure as medium weapons.

Alright then; action changed to protect Ulric's rather vulnerable hide.

I'm flying to Rhodes tomorrow and won't be home until the next sunday, so I'm (most likely) off the internet for the duration. Meanwhile, Beringar will do what he can to safeguard the other members of the Company. He won't be shy about some front-line duty, so please 'NPC him' as you see fit.
Regards,
Olroda

It will help me a lot guys if you could state precisely what weapon your PC is using. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly what equipment each PC has, and even if I look up your character sheets it may not be up to date, and it can often be ambiguous (i.e., you might have both a normal and silver dagger, so when you post "dagger", which is it?).
Even if you only have one spear it would still be helpful if you could remind me (in your in game post) whether it's silver or steel or whatever else it may be
A few quick questions for this turn:
What weapon is Desmond/Mondes using?
What weapon is Beringar using?
What weapon is Torben using?
What weapon is Dorgan using?

Hmmm... apologies, WOTE. I had a post indicating Desmond was going to use his silver dagger. Apparently I accidentally cut that part out of my last post.
So, having noted that normal arrows apparently had no effect, he was switching to his silver dagger.

How easily we forget the mighty Mads Cold Iron Axe in the hands of Dorgan the Rock!
