The secret stair is narrow, but the passage at the bottom is a bit wider; enough to accommodate two abreast, just.

Rufus will move to the iron door and searching (on the ground in front then the door) around for traps and secert openings and look into how the door opens.
Before anyone opens the iron door he will move back into the rear of the party, since Rufus is not a good fighter, but his good at locks.
