:)

It's only one glove. I haven't taken the opportunity with Torben to actually test it out and use it, so I'll hold onto his boon for now. I flipped a coin* to determine whether he would be lured into the wager, and flipped again to determine whether it was the glove or the cup that he would impulsively and foolishly offer up.

Going from almost dead to winning an archery contest is a good bit of luck. We'll see how long it holds out.

*My sister-in-law and her husband were in visiting his sister and her husband in New Zealand (Blenheim and thereabouts) a few weeks ago, and they brought back a set of these commemorative coins as gifts. I wasn't able to snag Gandalf, but I did grab Thorin.

Ways, the DD rules only list Leather, Mail, and Plate as the available types of armor. Does that mean that Dorgan's Ring Mail is the equivalent of Chain Mail, or should I still be looking to upgrade if possible?

I'll be writing this up along with the other house rules as soon as time allows. However, ring mail is considered "light" armour--it is AC 7 (as is leather), though it is allowable to templars who refuse to wear the leather armour of "knaves". If ever weapon type versus armour type comes into it, slashing/cutting weapons are also disadvantaged against mail type armour.

While we're on the subject, the Elvish mail is the same protection as is mail (AC 6 by the house rules) but is also "light"--it weighs half what regular mail does. Not that Torben has any issue with encumbrance given his strength of 17!

Can Elves cast spells in Elvish Mail even if it is not magic or is all Elvish Mail somewhat magical by nature? Just curious..

'tis a very interesting question.

OD&D presumes that all magical armour is of the plate-type (see Magic Armor Effects on Armor Class Guide GH, p15).

But AD&D goes on to include magic armor of other sorts (DMG, p124) and to inform us that magic armour of +3 quality is presumed to be Mithral with an "a" (DMG p164).

Unearthed Arcana adds Elfin Chain Mail which is usable by thieves and is equal in AC to regular mail. It states that "Non-magical suits of elfin chain mail are sometimes given to those heroes who have performed some great and invaluable service for the elven peoples." (UA p75) Later, UA includes +1 thru +5 magical elfin mail, and these are described as "magical armor of a sort that is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing" (UA p104).

All very curious...

My ruling on the matter is: Torben's mithril armour is mithril ring mail +1.

It is light armour.
It is usable by thieves, templars, and elvish fighter/magic-users.
It weighs half what regular light armour (e.g. leather) weighs.
It can be worn under clothing.
It is AC 6 (equal to regular mail by the house rules).

But not regular fighters? Tricky elves.

I think Fighters are the baseline and can use ALL armor and weapons. Unless their is a racial restriction. So you should be fine.

Was there "regular" chain available for purchase from the Elves? I thought I saw it mentioned but I can't seem to find the post.
