Recalling his previous fight with the man-wolf creatures, Desmond is elated to see his silver dagger harm the vile beast.

"It works! The silver works!" he grunts, stabbing again at the same creature with his blood-covered blade.

Gustave follows Dorgan as the dwarf presses the attack, but keeps a wary eye on the new development in the courtyard.

Olaf steps back letting Dieter get in front of him. He will again try to fire that silvered arrow into the monster!

And Dieter will gladly step in front of his comrade, eager to try out his new silvered sword.

Ulric's attention is drawn to the collapsing wall of the chapel. It could only be one thing.

"Beware the golem!" Ulric shouts above the fighting.

Ulric focuses on the chapel and waits for his target to appear. Once it does he will cast The Sorcerer's Flechette upon whatever comes out.

Josiane bites back the pain of her wounds and continues trying to fend off the fiendish enemy while protecting her friends. (She's still fighting defensively unless she is able to cast The Righteous Evangelist.)

Until otherwise engaged, Armando will crouch along the wall and hope to remain unseen. Silver dagger at the ready, he'll evaluate the possibility of a surprise attack on either of the foes menacing Highbough and Josiane, but otherwise prepares to act defensively. In any event he'll try to stick with Wen. He wonders if torches or flame might spook the wolf-creatures ...

Upon the walls and roofs a series of desperate, individual melees unfold:

Highbough contests a rooftop with a werewolf, and deals it another sore wound (4 hit points) with the Ire Spear, while evading harm himself.

Nearby Josiane continues to fend off one werewolf, while Desmond/Mondes draws the second monster off her with another fierce stab of his silver dagger (5 hit points), but he takes a battering return (5 hit points).

Armando, out of sight, deems he could attack either of Highbough or Desmond's opponents from behind.

Dorgan and his opponent fence one another, parrying and dodging heroically, while Gustave guards his back and Berigar somehow manages to avoid the death blow that was surely coming?! He's fighting out of his skin!

Opposite the bell tower, Olaf makes cunning retreat--backpeddling along the wall-top. Dieter and Torben close ranks in front of him just as his silver arrow is shot between them, but it flies harmlessly wide. Dieter and Torben scamper after the werewolf, but faced with three opponents it leaps fantastically up the bell tower and out of reach, and in two impossible bounds makes the summit!

Meanwhile Gustave sees: A roiling pall of smoke and dust rolls out of the chapel so thickly that the building itself is momentarily obscured. As the fighting continues there now comes thumping steps that shudder the ground and a giant, dark figure hoves through the breach! Even through the smoke it is clearly black as tar with long scars like burning coal running over it. It has no recognisable face but a pair of broad down turned horns, and a single scorching red eye between them that casts a searching, fiery beam out into the fog!

Ulric's errant missile whizzes recklessly through the combat again, narrowly missing Beringar's foe, as he sorcerously conjures another pair of like missiles and slings them at the new menace! Wen too looses a withering hail of arrows from his bow, but all arrows--sorcerous or not--are deflected or blunted upon its awful carapace.

The roving red beam snaps suddenly between Wen and Ulric's positions!

| Game Mechanics

Highbough's fight:
Coming off a surprise turn init is diced (next round the wolf will attack first with its smaller "arms"),
d6: highbough=1, were0=4,
Were0 d20=5, miss,
Highbough d20=19 @+1=20, hit. d6=4.

Josiane and Desmond/Mondes are fighting two weres:
Coming off a surprise turn init is diced,
d6: Desmond=5@+1=6, weres=2,
Desmond d20=19, hit. d6=5.
Were1 vs Desmond d20=17, hit. d6=5.
Were2 vs Josiane d20=4 @-4=0, miss.

Beringar and Dorgan (with Gustave in Support) face two weres:
Both using medium weapons, so dice for init,
d6: Dorgan=2, Weres=2, a tie,
Dorgan d20=4, miss.
Gustave is blocked and prevented from attacking.
Were3 d20=1, miss.
Were4 vs Beringar 4d20=5,7,6,12 vs AC5 (no helm now), 4 misses! Beringar gets no counter-strike because his spear is not lighter than medium.

Olaf, Torben and Dieter face one were:
Olaf wants to withdraw, must win initiative to do so:
d6: PCs=4, were6=1,
Olaf withdraws, Dieter and Torgen step in,
Dieter d20=13, miss,
Torben d20=10, miss,
Olaf (fires into melee) d20=8 @-2 =6, intended target but miss,
Were6 leaps up the bell tower instead of attacking.

Ulric's existing magic-missile: d20=9 (targets a random back, but misses again!)

Ulric's new spell (Sorcerer's Fletchette) summons d3=2 missiles:
2d20=14,4 @+1=15,5, two misses.

Wen's two volleys of arrows:
2d20=7,18, miss, hit, no damage. |
