Round seven folks. Did we ever think we'd see it go this far?
Seigheld smashes head6 into oblivion as Clem is struck down, and there's nothing Bargle can do. Nooooooooo!
The monster supporters in the stands are going wild!
It's the final hydra head versus Bargle on 3 hp, and Seigheld on 4 hp... and her protection from evil has just expired!
The fans are starting a Mexican Wave. It's crazy out there!
Round SEVEN
This is the final round of Clem's very useful Protection from Evil spell.
First Blow
Seigheld (2 men) vs head6 (AC5, hp 4/6) 2d20=2, 18. One hit. d6=2. head6 is slain!
head2 (man) vs Clem (AC6, hp 6/7) probably the monster's final blow: 1d20=18. Another hit! 1d6=5! Clem is down!
Second Blow
Bargle (2 men) vs head2 (AC5, hp 3/6) 2d20=8, 9. two misses.

Bargle and Seigheld pummel the remaining life out of the exhausted monster without further loss, stunning the raucous crowd into silence.
It's all over folks! The players are victorious!
Round EIGHT
Another tricky initiative circumstance. Seigheld has just slain head6, and head2 has just slain Clem. Who goes first?
Well... last time I gave it to the players, so why not give it to the monsters this time?
First Blow
head2 (man) vs Bargle (AC3, hp 3/9) this time almost certainly the monster's final blow: 1d20=3. LOL, it's a miss.
Second Blow
Seigheld + Bargle (4 men) vs head2 (AC5, hp 3/6) 4d20=12, 15, 20, 2. Two hits, 2d6=5, 6. Head2 is slain!

Post Analysis
Despite the sleep spell incident, the players prevailed due to their superior AC and attack rate. Protection from Evil further reduced the hydra's attack rate.
Without the sleep incident (and spears doing double damage on the first round) it's likely the players would have won relatively easily.
I conclude that a party of 8 hard-nosed monster hunters are threatening enough for a six-headed hydra to not immediately charge to its certain doom
Technical note 1:
One could infer from M&T that hydra attacks count as large-sized. I didn't do this but, technically, any player hit by the hydra at the first blow should have been denied a return blow unless they themselves also have a large weapon. Skimming back through the log, it looks like there was only one instance of this in round 6, so it wasn't a major factor.
Technical note 2:
It was interesting that the case of determining the first blow when "switching opponents" came up twice.
I'll have to ponder that for future fights.

Unbelievable!!
Seigheld performs last rites on the fallen. Bargle searches the room for treasure.

Seigheld gathers up any items that might be helpful in outfitting the next batch of minions: Glitch's sleep scroll, Archie's 2H sword, lanterns, oil, holy water, silver weapons, wolvesbane, belladonna, etc.
As much as she and Bargle can carry back to the surface.
