Well the first two would certainly be his loss. As for the latter - The Gustave does not make 'jokes', though he may at times dabble in a witticism.

Aside from the gold, it does appear to be theoretically correct. The Evil Twin rule is intended for players whose scores are entirely below average, but in the end I'm happy to go with whatever odd-ball options the players can dream up.
I didn't consider Hinterlands-style fiddly non-human ability scores when I originally proposed the evil twin rule, so it's not surprsing that it didn't work out brililantly right off the bat. I've amended the procedure slightly to allow for non-humans. This change also means that evil Men will be subtly better off.

The EVIL TWIN:
1. Remove one score for your purse,
2. Invert each individual die (inverted die=7-real die). For Men, just invert the summed score (inverted score=21-real score).
3. Apply racial adjustments (for men, elves, dwarfs, hobbets).
4. Alignment = chaotic.
5. Men= men, elves = drow, dwarfs = guore, hobbets = goblins.

So, Mushgnome's proposed goblin rat-catcher would then be nearer to this:

Str [4,3,2] --> [3,4,5] (4 becomes 3) --> 11
Int [1,3,1] --> [6,4,6] --> 16
Wis [6,1,1] --> [1,6,6] --> 13
Con [2, 6, 5] --> [5,1,2] (2 becomes 1) --> 7
Dex [1, 3, 2] --> [6,4,5] (5 becomes 6) --> 16
Cha [3,4,2] --> [4,3,5] --> 12

An intriguing (albeit chaotic!) PC.

Ooohhhh...

A drow magic user/rat catcher?

Str [123]-->[654] (6 becomes 5, 4 becomes 3) 13
Int [434]-->[343] (3 becomes 4, x2) 12
Starting Gold [624]-->120sp
Wis [325]-->[452] (5 becomes 6) 12
Con [613]-->[164] (6 becomes 5, 4 becomes 3) 9
Dex [123]-->[654] (5 becomes 6) 16
Cha [246]-->[531] 9

That's MUCH better than my straight-up elven MU/RC! And it seems sort of appropriate...

WOTE, what's the ruling on arcanes and armour when it is multi-class?

By the book a dual-classed elf magic-user can act as a magic-user when wearing enchanted armor, but not when wearing mundane armor. It seems reasonable to extend this principle to all dual-classed M-Us.

Bottom line is, I'm dying to try the rat-catcher class. So I'll wait to see what the other players choose. If it's looking like the traditional lawful/neutral party, I will play a human ratcatcher and put my '12' in wisdom. If it looks like chaotic PCs will be welcome, then I'll give the evil twin goblin thing a shot. ;)

Anyone remember how Ways' first DD Intro game turned out with all those Chaotic Wizards and Elves in the party? Thats pretty typical outcome. :)

I remember it well :twisted:

I think there could be room for a goblin rat-catcher even in a largely neutral/lawful group, particularly if he were so useful that the reluctant party couldn't afford to lose him (i.e., his native goblin-tongue proved to be invaluable) despite having to keep him on a short leash.

If there are multiple chaotic sorts, the player party could very easily be its own undoing.

I think eris got the toughest break, this time around.
Still, there might be a really fun character hiding in there... lo! It's a dwarf fighter!

[ 4, 4, 4 ], ... str 12 (a capable, dwarf-sized, arm)
[ 4, 4, 4 ], ... 120 sp (gets him good dwafish plate armor)
[ 3, 5, 2 ], ... int 10 (he speaks common and dwarf, numbers and letters are fer girls)
[ 2, 3, 1 ], ... wis 6 (he's always sayin stuff he shouldn't, and trampin' where he shouldn't)
[ 2, 3, 2 ], ... con 8 (so he's short. What of it? dwarfs are meant to be short!)
[ 2, 4, 1 ], ... dex 7 (arrows are for pansy elves anway)
[ 1, 2, 1 ]] ... cha 3! This guy is a *legendary* boor! He has an inappropriate remark or manerism for every occassion.

Charima 3 could be the real *feature* of this PC... if you wanted to play it that way.

For the record, I will be deploying a human MU this round.
