There seems to be a disconnect here
Opening the door leads to this glade. There is no second door. If you walk through the door, you are in the glade

That is what I understood - so to be clear Aldbane is throwing the torch into the glade, thinking it is an illusion.

Grampus thinks the rope idea is a sound one and volunteers to go through the door with a rope lifeline to do some preliminary browsing on the other side of the doorway.

Just checking - unless this is some magical effect, I had specified that it was an unlit torch.
