Dorgan will assume all eyes are on the duel and take this opportunity to scout about the pavilion a bit.

Specifically, he's looking for the robed advisor whose face is always hidden. What is this person doing? If the dwarf finds him/her, and it looks like they are concentrating on something, he'll look to distract them. This would involve anything from loud conversation up to and including physical contact (like grabbing one hand and vigorously shaking it under the pretense of introducing himself).

OOC: Don't know if the Boar is getting any magical help but, if he is, Dorgan will try to put a stop to it.

coffee wrote:"Yes, let's," Dieter says with a short bow. And then he immediately attacks.
OOC: Anyone else wonder why Dieter was attacking with a short bow instead of his usual sword and shield?

Threw me off for a second.

Dorgan looks for an opportunity to slip away as the fighting clangs on, and makes his move. Sometimes it's fortunate to be half as tall as a Man, when it's convenient to be "overlooked" that is... Dorgan sidles toward the pavilion entrance (usually a fighter would have 2 chances in 6 of carrying this subterfuge, but as everyone is preoccupied with the fight, the ref rules it 4 in 6 instead; 1d6=2), but just as he's about to slip inside a heavy hand thumps down on his shoulder, and he turns about to see a wary looking fighter hovering over him.

"Where d'ya think yer off to, eh?" says the Man knowingly, "I reckon it best fer all that you keep yer eyes on the show, eh?"

Meanwhile, the battering duel continues.

The combatants launch into another series of fierce attacks (Initiative is rolled 1d6; Dieter=3+1, The Boar=3) and again Dieter is the faster, (d20=7,15 @+5=12,20 vs AC4=1 hit) delivering a barrage of stinging attacks that amount to (1d6=5) 5 damage. The Boar is more than robust enough to take everything Dieter dishes up and counter punches at every opportunity, making Dieter duck and weave and throw himself from harms way. But even with his combat reflexes (d20=20,9,7 @+5=25,14,12 vs AC2=1 hit) he cannot completely evade The Boar (1d6=5) and suffers several jarring blows to the sum of 5 damage.

The Boar laughs heartily in the pause between these exchanges; he must be enjoying himself!

"Oh yer quick, we can see that," he acknowledges, puffing enormously from his exertions "But I ain't so slow as an Ogre, now am I?"

Armando might take this opportunity to size up The Boar's retinue. He had, much earlier in the day, a brief, shrill and unrewarding exchange of words with the churlish fellow who has just preempted Dorgan's exploration of the camp. But now that everyone is outside to witness the combat, he glances from one face to the next ...

While the Boar and Dieter slog it out, and eveyone is looking at them. Rufus will slip into the shadows and sneak inside the pavilion to have a look around.

Dieter and The Boar continue their slogging match; both banged up and bleeding from multiple hurts now, but The Boar enjoying himself hugely.

As Dorgan distracts the wary fighter at the pavilion entrance, Rufus attempts to slip behind him unseen , but canny fellow reaches out his left hand as he restrains Dorgan with his right, and grabs a fistful of Rufus' curly locks.

"You too, little fella," he growls, getting angry now.

Meanwhile, with the crowd of onlookers absorbed in the fighting, Armando identifies the few faces to which he can attach names from his earlier visit; Dagobert -- an unfriendly ruffian obsessed with knives, Terrel the story teller, Ritter the pessimist, ah... and Claus the Quartermaster with whom he exchanged a few not unfriendly words earlier in the day.

Armando moves gracefully through the boisterous Men, cringing as the louder blows clang off shield or armour, to rap Claus on the shoulder and remark, "Claus! You never finished telling me what happened to your dog..." (Thieves have 4 chances in 6 of performing acts of subterfuge, including the picking of pockets; 1d6=4).

Claus's eyes flick momentarily from the duel to surmise Armando, and then back again, "Killed. Split on a boar-spear." he grunts, shrugging Armando's hand off his shoulder, his eyes fixed once more on the combat. But by then Armando has already transferred Claus' coin purse to a hidden pocket of his cloak...

And all this while the violent duel continues...

Dieter and The Boar harry one another with feints and thrusts and deadly swings of axe and sword (Initiative is rolled 1d6; Dieter=5+1, The Boar=4) but The Boar still can't match Dieter for pace.

But Eberhardt seems unwilling to alter his aggressive style to account for Dieter's speed (d20=17,8 @+5=22,13 vs AC4=1 hit) and he sustains (1d6=3) 3 points of damage as he launches his various counter attacks; (d20=6,5,8 @+5=11,10,13 vs AC2=no hits). But on each occasion Dieter manages to deflect or evade The Boar's attack, staying injury free for a full, intense minute of dueling.

After the third minute of hard fighting The Boar is panting heavily and red in the face. He pauses half a moment to joke "Agh, stand still a moment gnat, and I'll swat you! Har har!"

The Boar is more than just flustered now; he's hurting. Not that Dieter isn't!

Torben

Noticing the commotion, Torben drops the reigns to Murphy off to another member of the company and approaches the man holding Rufus and barring Dorgan, eager to earn some respect from his new friends. "Hands off the little ones," he roars, and, without waiting for a response, slugs the man square in the face.

Both his hands are occupied, after all.
