While Grampus listens, Wiglaff will whisper to the group: "We should try knocking, first. Just out of politeness. If nobody's home, then we should try to remove the hinge pins."

Grampus thinks the knocking is good to go as a next step.

You knock, the sound ringing loudly in the corridor. but there is no response

Wiglaff turns the handle (if any) and gives the door a good tug.
Assuming it doesn't open:
What do the hinges look like? Wiglaff is going to try to dismantle the hinges by taking out the hinge pins, using lamp oil as a lubricant if necessary. He can use the back of his hand axe as a hammer, though he will need to borrow someone's dagger.

I am sure that if you are determined, you have enough tools and stuff to be able to get the door off in about 20 minutes. It might make some monster-attracting noise though

Wiglaff looks around at the rest of the party.
"What say you? I'm very curious what's behind this door, and I think we're tough enough to hold off any wanderers that show up while we're dismantling the door. We can place a torch or two down the corridor in both directions to give us better warning time if something's coming, and post a strong guard (with archers)."

"Let's dismantle it or break it down," Aldbane says. He'll lend his hammer to the task if needed.

Rhod will take up a position watching up the corridor, in case anybody shows up. Bow is out, arrow knocked, but sword is loose in scabbard in case melee should eventuate.
