Hearing the scooting noise behind him, Desmond turns to see Josiane kicking the dark dwarven stone his way.

"Hey, get that away from us!" Desmond whispers. "It stinks of dwarf!"

"Wen, can you pick that up for Dorgan?"

The West Chamber
(Torban, Rufus, Gustave, Ulric, Guntram and Armando)

Torban moves a little further in to the large space, now dimly illuminated, as Guntram takes rear guard and the others inspect the wolf-corpse.

The chamber is shaped like an intersection between two huge boulevards, with the central area raised above the floor. Torban can just about see boarded up windows opposite, about 60ft across the room.

Meanwhile, Ulric has no notion of what the smoldering giant wolf might really have been. He has read of dire wolves, wargs, winter wolves, hell hounds and the like. But he has never knowingly met any first hand, so it's impossible to tell what this thing might have been.

"Err... problem," mutters Guntram, as he sees multiple figures moving in the dark passage behind them. The way back is blocked.

The Blighted Passage
(Josiane, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan, Dieter and Wen)

Dorgan and Dieter form up a front line as Josiane issues her stern warning. In the library doorway, Wen scoops up the precious Marrowstone while Desmond/Mondes turns about in the passage to see a disconcerting array of shadows bobbing in the dark passage behind... It's too dark back there to tell what it is.

And then all hell breaks loose.

The four black monks rushing at Dieter and Dorgan cast off their tattered robes and leap into battle -- impossibly morphing into wolfmen in mid-air -- stabbing with cruel, long knives and snapping with awful fangs even as they collide violently with the stoic defenders.

(1d20; Dieter=11, 9, misses. Dorgan=1, 6, misses. Two Wolfmen=14,20,18,8, three hits. 3d6=1,2,1)

Our heroes are battered in the onslaught, but they withstand these superficial hurts suffering only 2 hit points each.

She moves swiftly to channel the power of The Righteous Evangelist into Dieter's blade.

Okay. Now Dieter's getting angry. He retaliates with all the strength he has.

Wen would try to bring the small power of the Irascible Leer to bear on one wolf-thing. Other then that he would give the combatants room to move, and light to see by.

"Oi! We got something back here, too!" Desmond says, trying not to panic.

"A little help!" he adds, as he moves forward just enough to make sure the library door is between him and the rest of the party, hoping to secure it for a possible escape.

Torben

Torben's eyes adjust to the dim light and he eyes the space carefully. "Windows are all boarded up -- a little sunlight might offer us some protection?" he asks in a low voice, too distracted to hear Guntram's alarm.
