In the passageway...
Caine stows his short bow and re-arms himself with two long knives as Dieter works his parrying sword and shield hard to hold the ferocious, deranged foe at bay. Hearing Rodrick's call to retreat, both men back off down the gloomy passage toward the fountain chamber wondering at what bold plan the templar might have. Dieter retreats stoically down the passage, until he unexpectedly lunges forward to puncture the chest of his cadaverous enemy (1d20=10) with his cold steel blade causing (2dd=2,4) 5 hit-points of damage. When Dieter rips his blade back, the shambling corpse collapses before him as it it were never anything but a pile of old bones.
Meanwhile Rodrick and Olaf have their own problem, cut off from the rest of the party as they are. Olaf awaits another opportunity to loose a missle (1d6=1) but he dare not risk slaying Rodrick with an errant shot. In the frantic swiping and dodging Rodrick feints left, then right, and finally strikes directly forward (1d20=16) and smashes his torch unto the foe's moldering skull with such force that it breaks the torch in twain, and delivers (1dd=4) 5 hit points of damage and settles the matter. His opponent crashes heavily to the ground, and does not so much as twitch...

Ulric urges the party to return up the passage to assist their fellows, and Mads and Taines more or less follow his direction, while Victor hastily finishes stuffing the proceeds of his looting into his pack.

In the spider passage...
Anwyn, however, boldly returns to the spider passage and peers intently into the smoky gloom.
Her torch lies guttering half way down the the smoldering passageway. It scarcely provides any illumination whatever, but it is enough for her Elvish eyes.
Most of the webs in the passage entry have been vapourised by flame, leaving the tunnel relatively open -- but for all that it is still strewn with dungeon refuse. She spies several deep cracks in the tunnel walls leading up to a T intersection which is still choked with thick web.
Of the spider there is no sign whatever, but the tiny hairs on Anwyn's flawless skin are on end with tension...

The sound of fighting in the corridor behind them suddenly stops. Ulric moves to the open archway, shining his lantern down the hall. He sees the distant glow from a burning torch.
"Is everyone alright?" he calls down the hall. "This way is clear for the moment. We have found corpses of two of the hobgoblins."
Turning, he sees Victor placing some items in his pack.
"What have you found Victor?"

Olaf calls back, "We have some wounds, but have vanquished our foes...for the moment at least."
"Lets regroup back here to rest and recover a bit before moving forward." Olaf calls out.
OOC : Olaf will seek to rest long enough now to regain that 1d6 HP (it is 1d6 right?) and is encouraging the others to do the same.

Olaf will light a torch (he is saving his lantern with the mage fire for a last resort) and seek to place it in a sconce or wedge it into a crack in wall to hold it in place.
When Rodrick begins binding his wounds, Olaf says, "Thank you Templar."
Adding, "You fought like a hero against those undead monsters. You would make your order proud."

After resting (if we get that long), Olaf will insist on opening the closed cell doors we passed by the first time.
"We must check out these doors now before more surprises come at us from behind." the warrior says, "It is hard enough to fight these monsters head on. We risk being overwhelmed if we have to fight monsters before and behind at the same time."
