I'm in IT too, and yes there are certainly opportunities about. The challenge is that the big IT employers here abouts (government, finance, and the telcos) have all been cutting back over the last six months or so, shedding anything up to two-thirds of their IT staff.

I'm sure the wrecking ball will swing the other way eventually... it's all a matter of being the right guy in the right place at the right time.

I hear you and those big organizations move slow as can be. I work for a small company and there would have to be 6 figures before i'd go back to a big company it's so much better. You'll find something it's not all the wheel of pain, Conan eventually breaks free of the wheel as i'm sure you will too.
