Ulric, Anwyn and Mads stand ready to fire at whatever may emerge from the spider tunnel... but after a moment nothing does.
Mads fires blindly into the gloomy, smoke-fills passage anyway (1d20=6) but his arrow is swallowed by the darkness without any sign that it may have hit anything.
Meanwhile, the furious melee in the intersection seems without end!
(Initiative is rolled; Dieter 1d6=6(+1), Rodrick 1d6=6(-1), Caine 1d6=4(+1), Olaf 1d6=1, Foe 1d6=3)
Galvanised by his success, Dieter presses his advantage, stabbing and thrusting courageously with his bright sword, but despite the confined space (or perhaps because of it? -- and the tangle of crumbling bones underfoot) he cannot land a telling blow on his infernal opponent (1d20=8).
All the while Caine aims and angles behind him with a silvered missile drawn tight upon his bowstring. At last, as Deiter lunges wide one way and his foe evades wide the other, and Caine seizes his chance (1d6=5) and lets fly his deadly arrow (1d20=15) which sinks deeply in the delapidated chest cavity of the living corpse for (1dd=3) 3 hit points of damage. The arrow's razored head protrudes out the monster's back, but even this only seems to antagonise it further! It tears wildly at Dieter as if it might pull itself through the air by its claw-strokes, and by its unholy fury scores a savage slash (1d20=16) which rends Dieter's leather carapace open and causes (1dd=4) 4 hit-points of damage!
All the while Rodrick finds himself pressed further back down the narrow passage as he awkwardly fends of several attacks from his likewise crazed opponent. Olaf back-peddles behind him, seeking an opportunity to loose his missle safely, but none presents (1d6=3). Before he is overwhelmed Rodrick manages to kick his opponent back, and then as it savagely charges back he smashes his firey torch up under its loose hanging jaw (1d20=18) splitting ancient teeth and bones for (1dd=3) 4 hit-points of damage in another shower of sparks and burning tar. The undying horror does not seem to recover its balance, and Rodrick manages to fend of its ferocious couter-attacks (1d20=7).
Rodrick has 6 of 8 hit-points.
Dieter has 3 of 7 hit-points.
Olaf has 2 of 6 hit-points.
The two standing enemy look horribly beaten and busted up -- but they looked that way when they first appeared. The two fallen corpses show no immediate sign of rising again...
