"Once we get the equipment checked, I'll go help you with the gate mechanism Desmond. We should be able to figure it out. We'll just need to be careful of more traps."

Ulric takes his two daggers and secures them to his belt. He then unrolls his bedroll and sets it near the fire to dry.

OOC: Ulric left these items in wagon: 2 days trail rations, bedroll, 3 leather scroll cases (empty), 2 ounces writing ink, 1 feather quill, 2 1 oz glass bottles (empty), 2 daggers, sling

Flewellen's scrolls were in a copper scroll tube that Ulric kept in his pack and the leaves of parchment stayed in his waterproof satchel.

Very good, no chance of water damage to the scrolls or parchment then...

"Baal's Hole," swears Victor as he shakes his sodden cloak off. "Let's get this fire going!" He spits for good measure.

"Right you are," grumbles Boris, and squelches into the kitchen, and returns with a decent armload of fuel from the timber box. He then kneels before the fireplace and assembles a stack of wood ready to be burned....

The Victor returns from the kitchen with a burning brand and thrusts it into the pile of sticks and logs, and before long there is a hungry little fire snapping and cracking as it takes hold in the fuel.

Gustave awakes from his fitful slumber to all this activity, still feeling rather green about the gills from his recent poisoning...

With everyone returned, and all the goods out of the rain at last, Desmond is eager to show Olaf and Ulric the get mechanism.

He leads the way to the opposite end of the mess hall (from the kitchen and fireplace), and into the stair landing. With the sun gone down, it is properly dark beyond the fireplace in the mess hall. Olaf has his bright, enchanted scepter to illuminate the way, however...

As the trio move to investigate, they are aware of a constant dripping and splattering sound -- rain coming into the gatehouse through numerous holes in the leaky roof, and dripping or running down the walls.

He has already used up the least rotted vegetables to make his soup. With that lot, he had to cut out at least half of the flesh. What remains is in even worse condition. He might be able to salvage a fifth or a tenth part of some of these... but if he isn't careful someone could end up getting sick...

Wibert takes a couple of old boxes of the foul smelling vegetables into the kitchen to see what he can do with them. It's a good thing it is mostly dark in the kitchen now (with only the hearth fireplace for any light). He'd hate to see what some of these things actually look like!

Dieter finds himself a spot close to the fire.

He's soaked clear through, so it's entirely possible he'll steam a bit, but he finds the warmth soaking into this bones a blessing.

His sword is still close at hand, though.

There is nothing to be seen beyond dusty old crates and boxes. Most of them are empty, but some few nearer to the trapdoor up to the kitchen contain the last vestiges of the gang's supply of rotten vegetables.

Koch wonders whether the chains that once held him could be somehow used, but these are well riveted to the walls...
