Most certainly.

In this cramped passage I will allow a 2 in 6 chance of definitely getting a clear shot (and a normal attack roll).

Or, if Caine wants to fire regardless, an odd numbered attack roll high enough to hit Dieter in the back might prove... rather awkward.

Same applies to Olaf in the other passage (except that he risks hitting Rodrick in the back, not Dieter).

Initiative is rolled (Spider 1d6=2, Anwyn 1d6=4(+1)) Lucky...

Anwyn flings her spluttering torch into the tunnel, and (wisely) turns to flee. Her missile is caught like a fly in a web before it ever reaches the alarming spider, but its flame catches to several of the sticky strands, which immediately fire and wither to nothing. The sudden flare of brightness gives the hideous monster pause just as it was readying to pounce, and Anwyn is able to flee without being struck down from behind!

In the fountain room Mads stows his axe and hastily readies his short bow. By the time Anwyn is scampering back into the chamber Mads is kneeling afront the fountain with an arrow drawn upon taut bowstring ready to fly, but he spies no target beyond the receding flames and curling smoke in the tunnel... would the monster have retreated?

As this is happening Ulric rushes to Taines and turns the stout Dwarf over his knee and bounces him roughly up and down and thumps him on the back to bang the water out of his lungs. Taines unconsciously expunges a gallon of water before spluttering and coughing like a sick child, and finally heaves in an enormous lungful of air. "Leave me be!" the sodden Dwarf is able to bellow at last.

Victor, also soaked through from his struggle with the water monster, turns and fishes quickly around in the fountain basin -- almost up to his elbows. "Well, how do ya like that?" he spits in disgust, "That thing didn't even have a copper penny!". He shakes his head and kneels to turn out the pockets of the slain Hobgoblins.

(Initiative is rolled; Rodrick 1d6=3(-1), Dieter 1d6=3(+1), The Enemy 1d6=3)

Fearing for his life, Olaf falls back hastily, and is covered by bold Rodrick as the burly templar shoves himself between Olaf and the foul, lifeless antagonist.

Dieter steps up the gap vacated by Rodrick and immediately brings his strength to bear (1d20=15) ruthlessly cleaving in a great downward stroke with all his considerable might which strikes sparks from the low ceiling and inflicts a grievous (2dd=4,4) 9 hit-points of damage as it shears the re-animated corpse entirely in two motley halves which are smote back to the earth.

Rodrick thinks of reaching into his pack for his holy water, but such is near impossible in the frantic melee, and with another of the grotesque cadavers now attempting to tear his throat out he thinks better of it, and defends himself with his trusty torch (1d20=3) but he manages to effect naught but glancing blows.

In the relative saftely behind Rodrick, Olaf backs up a half dozen yards, and panting heavily, changes to his trusty short-bow.

Caine, safely behind the indomitable bulk of Dieter, likewise stows his knives and readies a silver arrow upon his arched stick of yew.

Next round eiher of them might risk firing into the furious melee.

At last the two living corpses which still stand find their opportunities to retaliate. One leaps unexpectedly at Rodrick (1d20=9) forcing him to step back to avoid being grappled by a dead Man, and the other (1d20=2) stumbles over the bones of its sundered fellow and cannot get near enough to effectively strike at Dieter.

There are two rotting corpses still desperately tearing at Dieter and Rodrick in the cramped passage.

Gentlemen, your intentions?

Satisfied that the dwarf will live, Ulric stops pounding him on the back and quickly gets to this feet.

"Another spider?" he mutters. Ulric rushes to take cover behind the fountain facing the passage that Anwyn has just fled from. He loads his sling and waits for the spider to appear. If it does, Ulric will open fire.

Shouting, "Rodrick, shift left and duck, I'm shooting an arrow to your right." Olaf will carefully take aim ,and if he gets a clear shot, fire at the rotting corpse attacking the Templar.

OOC: Olaf will only fire if he gets a clear shot. He won't shoot Rodrick in the back if he can possibly help it.
