Since I'm separated from the group for now, I can't contribute proper, but I wouldn't spend more time at the Jolly Noose than necessary. We called attention to ourselves and our expedition there--the snorks likely have an ear or two extended at that venue.

On the whole, though, I agree with your assessments. We need to secure our money and find allies. I would suggest that we return what we have of Rodrick's possessions to the Knightly order, inform them of his death and subsequent burial, and make a donation.

I'm sure they have sway and power.

I agree, but IC, I don't think Olaf knows about the Plow and Furrow yet. I also think it would be a good idea for the group to start thinking about renting/buying a "safe house" here in Ket. We probably don't have the money for that yet, though.

Absolutely! Rodrick's and Crystal's effects both and donations to their orders.

It never hurts to have the clerics on your side.

It is clear that there are Snorks in town and that they are wriggling their way into various businesses. However, they don't really "hold sway". Most of the town population is Human and if you keep you noses out of the Snork areas you can avoid any overt trouble relatively easily. Some of the Snorks may even be honest citizens.

The Jolly Noose is visible from where you stand right now in the market. It is where merchants go to do business and to hire protection, so it may be a reasonable place to look for a fence for your loot, or to hire on some muscle if that is what you desire.

The market itself (where you are now) is the ideal place to purchase supplies, animals and basic commodities.

Flea street (where Mads is now) is the ideal place to procure services such as cobblers, barbers, physicians, scribes, dogsbodies and so on. It is also where the specialist artisans, including a smith, a bizarre, a tanner, a saddler, a buckle maker, a furrier, an illuminator, a fletcher, and a vintner have their places of business.

There are other places still to be uncovered, of course.

eris wrote: 1. Does this town have a bank or secure storehouse?
Yes. The Trader's Council is the cheif political infrastructure of Ket, and is said to have complicated series of underground bank vaults beneath it.

eris wrote: 2. Armor, weapons and magic shops?
Armour and weapons can be had from various artisans along Flea street. There is no "Magic shop" per se.
eris wrote: 3. Henchmen?
Mercenaries can be hired at the Jolly Noose. Other hirelings can be found by various means, including advertising.

eris wrote: 4. Payoffs to the powers that be, here in Ket? And just *who* are they?
The Traders' Council is the main political power. It is a council of wealthy merchants.
eris wrote: 5. Allies...we could use allies here in Ket!
You already have a few minor "allies", including a couple of barkeeps, a farmer, Lumbart Kort (the merchant whom you purchased the map from in the beginning). You can work at establishing others... returning Roddrick's gear to the Temple of Thuul will be a very good step in this direction.

Hello everyone. My apologies for the unannounced absence. I was in China on business for two weeks. I had internet access but apparently proboards sites cannot be accessed there (as well as many others). Once I get caught up on the new posts I'll chime in again (assuming Ulric is still alive .

So just to clarify, the gems and other items need to be appraised before they will be worth xp but do not need to be sold for coins, correct?

I will give XP as soon as you declare who owns what.

The only reason I suggested an appraisal is so that you (as players) have some better information available as you divide to spoils. If you want to create 10 even shares, for example, it may be made easier if you know how valuable various things are.

There is no urgent need to sell things for coin, other than to have ready coin at your disposal.
