EDIT: My sheet says 4 HP but not sure if that was a placeholder or if you rolled it.
MORE EDITING: Does he have to take a slot to be literate in each language he speaks, or one slot to be literate in all?
Hmm, my apologies! I seem to have somehow overlooked The Herald in the determination of random languages!
I will dice for his languages shortly... Meanwhile:
Yes, the 4 hp was just a place holder on the example sheet.
Yes, literacy (taken or diced once) applies to all known languages.

Thanks ehiker, some great advice there
One minor alteration (which possibly wasn't quite clear in the house rules):
ehiker133 wrote:For your starting languages, you begin with Illiberal, Gothic, and a Lawful language of your choice.
In fact the language of your choice can be any language of
any alignment except a counter-alignment tongue (i.e., one that is not your own alignment tongue).

Hey, if you're a Golden Dragon and you need your Unicorn shod, where are you going to go? To a smith, of course. And what are you going to do while waiting around? Talk with the family of course.
Smiths are partly magical, you know.

Brother Herald speaks Gothic (man), Illiberal (common), Empyrean (lawful), is literate, and knows two more randomly determined lawful tongues: 2 # d19 → [14, 16] so Xanadu (man) and Titan.

The way the stats work is that you first pull one set of rolls out for your coin purse. In this case, it looks like you pulled one of the 9's out.
At that point, you need to take the remaining rolls, in order, for your Str, Int, Wis, Con, Dex, and Cha scores. Since you are going with human, you get to replace one of those full sets of rolls with a 12 (not one roll in one of the sets).
So your base rolls are:
14
13
12
9
12
5
9
If you pulled out the last 9 for your coin purse and replaced the 5 with a 12, then you would have:
str 14
int 13
wis 12
con 9
dex 12
cha 12
90sp
If you pulled that first 9 out for your coin purse and replaced the 5 with a 12, then you would have:
str 14
int 13
wis 12
90sp
con 12
dex 12
cha 9
Either one is going to net you about the same character. Since a 9 and 12 CHA give you the same hirelings/reaction, you might take the build with the 12 Con for the better shock survival chance.
Actually, this was my array and my methodology:
- Code:
[ 5, 3, 6 ] => ... (14) C
[ 5, 6, 2 ] => ... (13) D
[ 5, 6, 1 ] => ... (12) CH
[ 6, 1, 2 ] => ... (9) $
[ 4, 4, 4 ] => ... (16) S
[ 1, 1, 3 ] => 12 (5) I
[ 1, 3, 5 ] => ... (9) W
ehiker133 wrote:For your starting languages, you begin with Illiberal, Gothic, and a Lawful language of your choice. Then you get two more at random (assigned by WOTE).
Your AC would be 4/6 (the shield provides you two pips to AC, so you lose both pips when attacked from the rear).
Finally, you might write a brief (3-4 sentences) description of what drives your character and how they know the languages you've chosen for them.
Will get those in.
Is there a list of lawul languages anywhere? Found it.
Let's try this again:
Todd wrote:Fendrel the Lawful Human Fighting-Man

Lawful Human Fighting-Man
STR: 16
INT: 12

[ 4, 4, 4 ] => ... (16) S
[ 1, 1, 3 ] => 12 (5) I
[ 1, 3, 5 ] => ... (9) W
There are two problems with your methodology, Todd. One is that you cannot assign roll sets to a stat. They must be taken in order. The order is: Str, Int, Wis, Con, Dex, and Cha. So after you pull out a set of rolls for your starting purse, then you must apply the remaining rolls, in order, to the six stats. The other issue is that the set of [ 4, 4, 4 ] => 12, not 16.
You're also missing one of the rolls.
So this is what your array needs to be, if you pull the [ 6, 1, 2 ] => 12 for starting coin:
[ 5, 3, 6 ], ...14 Str
[ 5, 6, 2 ], ...13 Int
[ 5, 6, 1 ], ...12 Wis
[ 6, 1, 2 ], ...120sp
[ 4, 4, 4 ], ...12 Con
[ 1, 1, 3 ], 12...12 Dex
[ 1, 3, 5 ], ...9 Cha
Also, your AC should be 4/6. 4 is for mail armour (AC6) and shield (-2 AC pips) and 6 is because only your mail armour works when attacked from the rear.

Don't know where the 16 came from... must have been wishful thinking on my part.

I see how I misunderstood the attribute ordering-- I thought you basically went in order of the attributes, starting after the roll assigned to the purse just rotating to the top of the array when the bottom was reached, that's how I arrived at my layout.
The online DD rules has AC 5 for mail, that's where I got it from. I'll change it.

No worries! I'm here to help as much as play (and to push the DM by doing unexpected things when at all possible)!
Ah, yes, there are a few changes for this game (some of which I believe are play tests for updating the rules in Ver. 5, but I don't know that for certain).
Here are the combat rules where the change to AC is covered:
