Ulric gets his trusty lantern fired up once more, and that done, peers into the gloomy stair-well below. The stairs run straight, narrow and steep downward for some 20ft or so, and then turn a right angle corner beyond which he cannot see...

All is cool, dark and musty in the stairwell, but there is no obvious danger...

Much the same effect is achieved as before, only this time Ulric is not on hand to illuminate the dark stair with his lantern...
