Initiative is rolled (1d6; Flewellen=6, Taines=6-1, Anwyn=4+1, The Foe=4, Olaf=4).
Hidden the shadow and darkness between trees, Caine unshoulders his bow and quiver and draws forth and arrow ready to aim and fire as Flewellen boldly pitches his buring flask at the enormous woody mass (1d20=9) but he somehow mananges to overpitch and his flask hurtles beyond the target and flares into bright flame as it smashes among the trees, suddenly and fiercely illuminating the contest.
Michele strains his manly arms and chest as he works the crank over his great weapons as quickly as he is able, but it will take him longer yet to wind back the wire. Victor likewise winches back his crossbow frantically.
Anwyn lets fly another arrow (1d20=20!) striking the terror deeply in the middle for (2dd=5,4) 2 hit points as Taines decries a chesty bellow in what must be a Dwarfish tongue, and charges headlong at the fell beast, with his great axe raised in two hands and meeting it in mid-stride as it lopes thunderously across the campsite, shaking the earth with each great step and aiming in the direction of Ulric and Olaf! But Taines burst through between them and with a mighty swipe of his axe (1d20=15) hews into the timberous fiend, hacking a savage chunk of bark and tendrils from its backswinging arm (2dd=2,4+1) for 2 hit points.
The beast scarcely pauses for that chip, and returns (1d20=10) a staggering counter-strike with its other arm, scattering Olaf, Mads and Ulric and smashing the bold Dwarf back the way he came, like bat on ball, delivering (8dd=1,2,2,2,4,4,5,6) a punishing 8 hit points that sends Taines sprawling!
Meanwhile Mads ensures that he is between Ulric and the monster, but it is easier said than done in the swirling melee. Olaf looks for an opportunity to strike with sword (1d20=2), but simply cannot get near enough without risking his neck.
Opposite, Padrig digs out an oil flask from his pack, pops the stopper and sets it to his nearby torch fire, thus igniting it, and sets it to ground at his feet so that he can easily ignite arrows in it, while Dieter pulls forth his sling from his backpack and quickly locates a suitable stone to fire from it.
Gustave moves back and orders Fix and Boris into action (1d6=3+1), but despite his commanding presence, the mercenaries only nervously approach the front line. They won't doing anything that Gustave won't do himself!
All this while Ulric has been back peddling and uttering incomprehensible phrases in the scaled tounge of the Dracondominion, and now spits out the alien words harshly (1d20=14) and his eyes burn bright again with sorcery as he stabs his fingers into the air and unleash the dragon's fire once more, swallowing the mid-section of the monster in steam and flames, dealing (1dd=5+1) 3 hit points of damage.
