Rhegaer's search of the grass pile turns up a leather bag, inside the bag are 7 gems. The are of the same quality, kind and size that you gained from the Bandits not so long ago. 7 100gp Rubies

The chest has no lock. While this is going on Hagwen reappears.... Seems as if there are some choices to be made.

Rhegaer the Red

Rhegaer opens the chest, using his spear and standing just to the side to avoid being directly in front of it.

The lid flips back easily enough although it sticks at about 75-degrees because the hinges are old and rusted. Rhegaer and Coln peer inside and see....

A large sealed glass jar, at least 16 inches across and 20 inches tall, filled with liquid. In the liquid is a severed goblin head complete with grotesque smile and golden ring through the nose.

After a pause as you take that in, you also notice more mundane things, a low quality wolf skin cloak, several torches, a flask full of something, a bundle of small sticks (5) each tipped with a strangle harden blob of green/blue material.

Rhegaer the Red

Rhegaer pulls out the jar, carefully so as to to spill or break it, then the rest of the items. Then he examines the chest more closely, using his sword to measure the depth of the inside of the chest and comparing that to the depth of the outside of the chest to make sure there are no secret compartments in the bottom.

He leaves the sticks for others with more arcane knowledge to examine, but picks up the torches for later use and and examines the flask to see if he can determine its contents.

Coln

To the jar: "What are you so happy about? You're dead!"

To Alrik: "Hey, what do think these sticks are? Some kind of magic candle?"

"<points at jar> Nice trophy, another goblin, good riddance. Please hand me that flask, perhaps it is something that can be used for healing."

When receives flask, opens it <pointing a bit away from face and others>. Then takes a whiff of it to see if smells like any of the curative herbs and salves he is familiar with. If it is something familiar gets a bit on the end of his pinkie and gives it a taste.

Alrik examines the sticks more closely, but will pocket them in any case, even if he cannot deduce their purpose.

Rhegaer pokes around the chest, he find no false bottom nor anything else of interest. He opens the flask and smells it.... Yuck, smells like sour wine, very sour, almost vinegar. Passes it on to Phadian who also smells it.. Yuck...

Alrik picks up the bundle of sticks, they are each about 7 inches long and 1/2 inch thick.

mgt's roll comes to 3 [3 on 1d6]

Alrik thinks they are quickfire sticks a sort of alchemists toy to produce fire by striking them against a rough surface. "You see they use sulfur that get built up on the tip and a little bit of fire will cause them to ignite.... These look well done, I wonder what else is in there.." Alrik continue s to inspect the sticks, smelling and touching the ends.

Alrik appears lost in thought, then says "Perhaps the sticks can be used to ignite whatever is in that flask, it might be worth pouring out a smal bit of it in a puddle on the floor here, I'll use one of the sticks to light it and we can see what happens..."

"The content of the flask certainly does not smell like anything curative I have ever dealt with, but certainly can see if it is flamable"

Pours a little bit of the flask contents into a depression on the floor and steps well back.
