Dorgan growls, "How 'bout let's not set off any traps 'til the dwarf is safe outside!"
tonneau wrote:"My dear dwarf", says Gustave to Dorgan, a stern expression on his face, "You seem to have had some experience with this sort of thing before. Perhaps you can provide some advice on where to...you know, stab...", he emphasizes the point with a mock thrust of his blade, "...to kill these 'dead' things?"

"Normally of course, I do enjoy a poignant thrust to the centre of the chest", , "thus...or a deft whisking off of the head", , "but I can see strategic issues with this approach if ones opponent is heartless, so to speak, or, for example, has no head...", he finishes, lips pursed and pondering (blade still making light feints in the cold air).
The dwarf turns to Gustave and smiles evilly.

"I always say, 'when in doubt, cut off a limb.'"

Olaf reaches the nearest door... 20ft into the vault on his left.

It appears to be of stout timber construction, bond with wrought iron re-enforcements. It appears hinged on the left side so that it will open into the space beyond. There is a large, black iron handle on the right-hand side of the door.

The "crack" in the ground runs to within inches of the right-hand edge of the door.

"One door is as good as another to start with," Ulric says to Olaf. "But perhaps we should let Wibert have a look before opening this one. Wibert?"

Ulric provides light for whomever wishes to inspect the door for traps.

Wiberts ears prick up. Did Wibert here his name!!! 'It is nice to be part of a team for a change', he thinks.

Wibert will come over carefully to Olaf. "What can I do he asks quietly?"

Wibert will examine the door slowly and carefully, looking closely and detecting for traps. Listening. He will use his dagger tip to look inside the cracks, no point in loosing a finger for no reason.

Hopefully Wibert remembers to hand the torch to Guntrum before he goes. Otherwise, Guntrum will remind him. "Tell them to send some word back or get a move on it. These corridors are well travelled, and I don't fancy splitting the party should something nasty turn up!"

"There's a lot to explore in here, doors, pits, other passages, that moaning." Olaf says to those in the room with him, "Either we get the whole party here and do it right or we retreat and go elsewhere. That's what I say."

OOC: We are thinking alike! Olaf is saying much the same thing in the other room. We need to get the party back together and explore this room, or all retreat back to the room where Guntrum is and check out the other passages *together*.

"Wisely spoken, friend Guntrum," says Josiane quietly, maintaining her watch on the left-hand passage; "Let us know what lies down yonder corridors before we relinquish control of our escape route."

OOC: A party of ten equipped for adventure and war takes up a lot of space. With a nice, loose organisation, let's suppose each PC occupies one 10ft square on the map. If you cramp up, maybe two persons per 10ft square on the map.

The ante-chamber has space for approximately five.

The passage between the anti-chamber and the first vault is approximately 40ft long, thus has room for four.

The first vault is approximately 40ft wide, but as nobody wants to cross the "crack", there is really only room for six or so.

Hence, it is not yet practical to have everyone in one room, unless you specifically want to crowd in (but then you won't have room to swing weapons other than daggers).

Wibert passes his torch to Guntram, and then makes his way down the dark, narrow passage to emerge in the first vault.

He cannot help but notice that it is quite cool. Chill, even.

However, by the light of Highbough and Ulric's lanterns he makes his check of the door...

...it is a Man-sized affair, such that the bold door handle is at about shoulder height on a Halfling -- a constant irritation to the small folk in these parts. None the less, Wibert's investigation turns up nothing unexpected. He supposes that the door could be opened safely...
