After giving the gear room another once over, just to make sure they didn't miss anything, Desmond says, "Ok, let's get back to the mess hall. As soon as the others are back, we should see about closing the gate, though!"

The Halflings return to the mess hall, just in time to see Pelenwin vanish into the kitchen, whereupon he leans over the open trapdoor and peers down at Koch, below.
It is beginning to get dark outside, and the rain hasn't stopped. The others must certainly be having a good time of it...

"I suppose these traps should do," Ulric says to Highbough. "I like your caltrop idea though. Perhaps we can scatter some in front of the doorways to where we will bed down for the night? Now, lets get out of this rain."
Ulric heads back to the kitchen where he will assist Highbough in bending the nails and fashioning caltrops.

KOCH
"Well, he isn't in the immediate vicinity, though this cellar goes back quite far into the cavern. If you could help search for tracks Pelenwin, that would be great."
KOCH will start to slowly approach the 'crate wall' to look for newer footprints or other signs to see if others have been in the cellar since he and Nidhogg escaped this morning.

Wibert and Desmond return to the kitchen, "hey we found out how to lower the portcullis..." then he stops when he sees the cellar door open. "What are you up to Koch and Pelenwin? Let me come down to help you", demands Wibert. "Ulric, Gustave, Desmond stay here and stand guard and fill in Highbough when he comes with what we are up to", says Wibert before darting down again into the cellar.
"Lets stick together and don't go far, and beware of that wall that seems like there is nothing behind it, it spooked me out before", suggests Wibert. Wibert will guard the rear behind Koch and Pelenwin. Keeping a good eye out for anything dangerous!

Highbough and Ulric begin to construct some make-shift caltrops from the rusty old nails and bit of chain and tin bucket. It is devious work indeed...

Meanwhile Wibert, hollering after his usual fashion, joins Pelenwin and Koch at the top of the cellar stair.
Pelenwin is by this time at the base of the stair, and Koch is right up the back of the cellar, perhaps 50 or 60ft yonder. He is clearly visible in the dark because he is carrying a torch.
Koch kneel to examine the dusty foot prints that he and Nidhogg the Dwarf made earlier that day, but nothing appears out of the ordinary. Koch has the feeling that nobody else has been down here since his earlier departure..

Back in the mess hall, Ulric and Highbough note that it has gotten properly dark outside now, and it sounds like Dieter and company are just arriving back with the cart at last...

KOCH
"It appears to me that no one else has been down this way since Nidhogg and I this morning. Well, at least this way may make a good escape route if needed. I'd rather not split the party more by exploring the cavern beyond. Plus, the weird slug things in the cavern pool are indeed creepy. Let's head back up to the rest."
KOCH gives the cellar one more good look around for useful equipment, supplies, trap material, before heading back upstairs.
